We stayed at the end of May and found the location fairly convenient and beautiful. We had an ocean view room in the towers.
The Hyatt is finishing a 12 million dollar renovation and it has some excellent features. The pool slides were really nice and the atmosphere is very elegant.
We especially liked the Hyatt water taxi ride to Sea World for just a few dollars round trip for adults. The walk to Sea World is much longer than advertised (took me about 25 minutes). The Hyatt also had good Sea World ticket prices.
It is a pretty long walk over the bridge to Mission Bay- but we liked the hike and found good bike rental prices. It is beautiful riding a bike along the boardwalk and bay!
Now the ouch! The Hyatt is following the trend of a lot of the upper price hotels in gouging you for every nickel they can get.
The rooms have no coffee service- you will be shelling out 2.50 a cup at Einstein's Bagels (no free refills)- the only coffee found anywhere on the property.
The rooms have no microwave and a very small micro fridge.
And, you will also be paying $18.00 a day for parking.
We decided to forego a car and use the Metro transit, which is a good way to get around San Diego- you can get a day pass for just $5.00 a person. We went by bus and trolley all over- La Holla, Coronado, Old Town- it was all very easy.
If we go back to San Diego- we probably will not stay again at the Hyatt unless they at least get some coffee or a killer rate.
