ReserveTravel
traveling with a moderate budget, traveling for business
I was directed to stay here for a mid-week business meeting with my work group. First, on arriving, the reception told me that the type room I reserved was unavailable, so they had to give me a smaller room but they would put me on a higher floor with an unobstructed northern view. Well, if this were San Francisco looking toward the Golden Gate, this might have been acceptable. But, no this was KC, and the view, though spacious, was bland. Second, the power conked out at 6:20AM and anybody having early morning business was forced to walk down from whatever floor. If you were checking out, this meant hauling your bags down the stairway! No one on early morning duty could correct the problem. But, by 8AM, a technician arrived and the elevators and power was restored. The hotel is part of the Crown Center complex but you pretty much have to walk through a linked overpass for some distance to get anywhere. Though the hotel has its portion of upscale and trendy eateries, the mall and the other central shops are via this walkway. In fact, the best convenience store is in the Center complex, maybe a 10 minute walk (the Hyatt has a small shop but it seemed unattended most of the time). The hotel location is not far from either the Sprint Center or the Power and Light district. On a nice day it's easily walkable though the hotel staff cautioned me against walking. In fact, I was able to walk to the riverfront and back . The Max express bus from the Crown Center can also take you to these places plus the Country Club and Westport Plaza areas in the other direction. The slower local buses also stop here but take a few minutes longer to reach the same destinations. A special casino bus leaves from directly outside the hotel. The hotel did not offer a complimentary breakfast or happy hour for normal guests like me. But I did receive the local paper each morning. And there was a coffee maker in the room. If I ever return to KC, I'd bypass this hotel and shoot for one near the Country Club Plaza area. You could also choose to stay in the central downtown and not have to worry about traveling for your evening meal or daily candy snack. But, unless you have business with Hallmark or at the regional IRS Center, this is not a convenient hotel.
