First, let me say that I've stayed at much nicer hotels that cost less than the Hyatt. Some Disney World Resorts cost less than the Hyatt. I even had a convention rate, and it was expensive ($100 a night for very small rooms and bad service). I'll be nice about the service because I know that the hotel was swamped that weekend because of the convention, but it doesn't take four hours to bring towels to a room.
When we arrived at the hotel (we came hours early to make sure we got the room we reserved, others weren't so lucky), we were told that we couldn't have the prop weapons we had brought for our costumes, although the con rules stated clearly that all non-live steel weapons were allowed. They made us take them all back to the car and wouldn't let me go to the room with the luggage until everyone was there. Then we had to wait in line while the men who were supposed to be taking luggage up to the room took a smoke break, leaving everyone standing there with carts full of luggage for about half-an-hour.
When we got to our room, we were disappointed to find that the internet access, which seemed "free" from the hotel description, was actually only free to T-mobile users. My friend who uses T-mobile tried to access it and found that it was only free to T-mobile users who had signed up with Hyatt to use the wireless in their hotels.
Then there were the towels. We had a con crash room, which meant that we had five people there, mostly male, each night. We were given two towels. We called the front desk to get more towels on the first night, and they said they'd be up with them shortly. We finally went to sleep, thinking that we would never get to shower. Around 4:00 am, there was a knock on the door, and a sleepy-looking worker had a stack of towels.
The Hyatt isn't really a very good deal. There is no continental breakfast, and the rooms are itty-bitty. The food court and small mall on the lower level weren't too exciting either. The restaurants were usually closed, and there were, maybe, four shops, all of which were closed during the weekend.
My advice is to stay at one of the other hotels in the area when you go to conventions at the Columbus Convention Center or the Hyatt. The Crown Royal has free internet, and the Red Roof Inn has better service.
