31 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I went for a 2 night getaway with my husband.

When we got there, there was a big QVC convention taking over the place. We had to wait in a long line, but we were immediately approached by staff and they took us aside to quickly check us in. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

The room was very clean and had a great water view, with a wraparound balcony. The first night the restaurant in the hotel was closed due to the QVC people, so we had to go to the Blue Point Provision. Cool atmosphere. My husband got a steak, the best steak I ever had!

We golfed the next day. The course is absolutely beautiful, and again, the staff was excellent. We ate at the clubhouse and they were very sweet with fast service. We had to eat at Michener's Lounge that night. Very long wait for food, but the server was very apologetic.

The next day, couples massage at the spa. It was awesome! All in all, this resort is beautiful, but ridiculously overpriced. The price is the only thing that would stop us from going back.

Also, they need some live entertainment to liven it up! Two mixed drinks at Michener's lounge was over $16, and a can of beer was $5.50! The rooms are very expensive, you would think you wouldn't be robbed when it came to everything else. We spent two nights and a day at the spa, and we ended up spending at least $1,400. Just make sure you have deep pockets to stay there. It certainly is a beautiful place!

The good: The room itself was very nice. The pillow-top bed was comfortable and we did not hear a sound from anyone in adjoining rooms, though we saw a couple with two young kids enter the room next door. The room was large and very clean, with one of the best bathrooms we've seen in a hotel. The hotel staff was fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful. Michener's Library (actually a hotel bar) is comfortable and has a great water view.

The bad: We paid extra for a water view room and got one overlooking a construction site. Sure, you could see the water, but the building under construction detracted from the view. They nickel and dime you to death! After paying over $200 a night, they added a $12 "resort fee" and charge $3.75 if you drink a bottle of water provided in your room. Come on, they can't even provide a couple free bottles of water (probably costing them 50 cents each) for a room costing that much? WiFi isn't free either. I paid $10 for 24 hours of use, but it never worked with my PDA, so I asked for and received a refund of the WiFi charge. I know they went millions of dollars over budget with the construction, so maybe this is their way of getting it back. The cost of drinks was also higher than other resorts we have visited. One beer and one glass of house wine in Michener's Library cost almost $14.

Finally, the Blue Point Provision Company restaurant was a disappointment. The menu is similar to Red Lobster, at 2-3 times the price. We expected a selection of fresh fish, such as tuna, swordfish, mahi-mahi, etc. at these prices, but the fish of the day were flounder, farm raised salmon, and tilefish. Other than the tilefish, everything else was standard Red Lobster type fare.

I am not likely to return to the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort.
I would not recommend it to friends.
