41 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

My friend and I had hoped to spend one last weekend at the beach only to find the hotel we liked was booked. It was a disappointment but my friend surprised me with reservations at the Hyatt that included a room with a water view and aquarium tickets. I was very excited to be going to a nice hotel for the weekend. When we checked in the person at the desk was very nice. I had a difficult time hearing him over the construction noise inside of the hotel. The room was nice but I expected more than just nice. We opened our drapes to look at our water view and noticed the street, the roof tops and then some water. The bathroom had body wash, conditioner and soap but no shampoo. We requested shampoo and the person at the desk called housekeeping. After waiting for 2 hours for the shampoo we gave up and finally went to bed. There was a very large group of people having some sort of affair that continued until

3 am. Every time I would start to fall asleep I would be startled awake by the laughing, clapping and loud voices. I thought I was going to cry at 2:30 am when someone in that group started screaming "go back" over and over. We also listened to some sort of loud plumbing noise in the bathroom. The next morning I used body wash for shampoo. After a very nice day outside of the hotel we came back to a room that wasn't very nice. The coasters were not replaced, the bed was made but but not neatly. I had stacked the throw pillows on the bench and they had not been put back on the bed and still no shampoo. We saw the woman from housekeeping in the hall and finally got some shampoo. The food was okay, nothing great. The people in the bar and restaurant were very nice. Parking at the hotel garage was free. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

The place is nice but lacks personality. The rooms were clean and nice. Flat screen TV etc. The location is very good if you want to be next to the inner harbor. There was a nice selections of places to eat but they were all national chains and lacked local flavor.

To sum it up it was just nice and boring.

Reasons why not to stay here:

Staff flat out lied to us twice--of course with a smile:

1. They told me to throw my parking pass away because I was paying for it by credit card--this was totally wrong.

2. I needed my clothes washed, so they told me just to "throw your dirty laundry on the bed and the staff will take care of it." This again was totally wrong and as such I had to wear dirty clothes the following days there.

They have 4 elevators but only 2 of them seem to work. When I complained the staff said, "We're busy today, sir, sorry--although we are running 3 at the moment." This statement I had to laugh at. There were literally lines waiting to use them. We used the stairs from the 6th floor 80% of our time there. I am by no means fat, lazy or old but I do expect to have a friggin elevator that works especially when I'm paying close to $200 a night.

This hotel is old and has zero personality. There are far better places to stay in Baltimore. May I suggest one of the new hotels in Fells Point. They have really fixed up Fells Point now and it seems safer and cleaner now. Fells Point has eclectic shopping, restaurants and bars. The Hyatt is near the Inner Harbor and that area has seen better days. The shopping is similar to "any mall USA" and the restaurants are lousy. Skip the Inner Harbor all together and stay your whole trip in Fells Point--you won't be dissappointed.

Right in the middle of the Inner Harbor area. This hotel is close to it all. While it was a bit on the pricey side compared to other major cities, it was definately a good value for what I received.

The room was brand new, the bed was very comfortable and the large flat screen LCD TV was great. The amenities were well suited for a traveler, and the hotel's service was good.

This hotel is close to a lot of good things, I myself was there for the convention center (attached by open walkway) but I also visited the National Aquarium and took in an Orioles game as well. Everything you need, from food to shopping, is within close walking distance.

The only other bother is that there seems to be a rampant homeless/panhandler problem in the Inner Harbor area. I was accosted by homeless quite frequently while walking around, while most of them were polite when I refused to give, some were quite persistent to the point of harassment.

I am very likely to return to the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

The location is good. The toilet clogged and the phone did not work. I did not receive a newspaper any morning, although all the other rooms did. However, the maintenance was quick to respond and rectify the problem, although I never found out why I specifically did not get a morning paper.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
I might recommend it to friends.
