If the following is considered slander or an insult, so be it! Well, I cannot say I enjoyed anything about my stay because I never stayed. I made my reservations on a Friday (June 23, 2006) at 5 pm and when I arrived at 3:55 pm on Saturday (June 24, 2006) I asked to see the room before I accepted it, it was disgusting to say the least.
The bathroom was dirty and had mold growing in it. They had sliding doors leading to the streets and apparently had removed the handle (which opened the door), the gap where the handle was located was left exposed, which lead to the possibility of bugs getting in and also the A/C escaping through the opening, plus the fact that anyone could put their hand through that gap and scare the heck out of anyone staying in the room. The room itself was dusty and the bed sheets looked liked they had put them through a rinse cycle and not washed. I immediately went to the front desk and cancelled my reservation and expressing my concerns, mind you, less than 24 hours after reserving the room, yet they charged me a $30.00 cancellation fee! This is unacceptable! I am contacting my credit card company to refuse payment!
When I initially made the reservation I was told I could cancel by 6 pm the following day, why was I charged a cancellation fee if I personally cancelled at 3:55 pm (2 hrs before the cancellation time limit). I expect a response and would like to know if corporate headquarters ever make inspections of people that have a Howard Johnson franchise! I will never or ever, and believe me when I say that I will never look into staying in other Howard Johnson.
