Howard Johnson Express National City Hotel

The hotel was fine. We were visiting family in National City and the hotel provided a fine place to sleep.

In general it has a clean appearance, but both of our rooms had roaches. Not just one, but a lot of roaches. Also, on the second morning, at around 6am one of the hotel staff entered our room without knocking. If we had had a working lock on the door they wouldn't have made it all the way in before they realized the room was occupied.

The location was ok because it was close to where my husband needed to work that morning. The room itself was nice and the air conditioning unit worked well since it was very humid outside. However, there was peeling paint, stains in the sink, the tub and the shower walls were dirty and it just looked run down and dirty. The water temperature changed drastically from cold to very hot in the shower and the towels were also yellowed instead of white. They were extremely rough to the touch and not nice on the skin. I have been in worse but also in better places for the price.
