Howard Johnson Express Inn North Bergen Hotel

We had booked this hotel trusting the name Howard Johnson. Well, we regretted our descision within minutes of seeing the hotel.

Ugly, clean outdoors, filthy carpet, dusty beds, black marks all over the bathrooms, no towels. And when we took the desk phone to call the front desk, the phone didnt work. Hieghts of disappoitment.

Will never go to any Howard Johnson. Only + is that it is close to the city.

I stayed with my son for one nightmare night. You'd be safer and more comfortable at the YMCA. Stay out of North Bergen!

Yes, it is close the Lincoln Tunnel which is easy access to go to NYC, but there are plenty of other Hotels on the same street to choose from. As soon as we opened the door to our room we regretted our decision to save a few bucks and stay there. We have stayed in Howard Johnson's before and they were always nice and clean so we thought it was safe to book this room. Well this Howard Johnson's was the complete opposite and now has tainted the Hotel Chains name in our mind. The carpet was dirty and stained. A strong bad odor was present and there was no way to escape it. The bathroom had stains on the walls of, well, I really don't know. All I know is that we were really disgusted. One more thing that I want to warn you about is that the Hotel is located on a hill. The main lobby is at street level and the guest rooms are at the top of the hill. You can drive up the hill to your room you if have a car, but if you don't be prepared to haul your luggage, shopping bags, and of course your tired body up and down stairs of a very step hill every time you go to your room.

The staff was fairly friendly. The first night we were there we were woken up at eleven-thirty p.m. by someone trying to get in our room. The person didn't speak English and eventually the front desk called to make sure I was the one in the room. I couldn't understand the person at the front desk, but I'm guessing the staff gave someone a wrong key. My wife and I were pretty scared by the whole situation.

The room we check in was not clean so we had to take another room. They did not have washcloth so we had to buy our own washcloth.
