Howard Johnson Express Inn Arcata Motel

I was promised a rate at check in. When I checked out, my rate had been increased $7 per night. When I asked why, I was told that the property owner routinely raises the rate of the guests and there was nothing I could do about it.

I intend to report these atrocious practices to the Better Business Bureau but thought it important to warn off people here. Do not rent at this property. What you are promised is not what you will receive.

I was there with a team of high school basketball players in a tournament nearby. The hotel was patient with the teenagers. My room was large, clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were very good.

The hotel is very clean, relatively new facility with very comfortable accommodations. For travelers, they provide a nice morning buffet of cereal, muffins, toast, fruit, coffee/juice.

This hotel made me feel welcome: We knew we would be arriving very late on the 1st night, around midnight. They made us feel that would not be a problem or inconvenience. No problem holding the rooms. We had more people in our party than we had arranged, and Howard Johnson accommodated all of us.
