45 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed here for my sons family day weekend from Fort Benning. The service was great by housekeeping and all other staff was quite friendly. The room was clean but I hate that the toilet/shower area is seperate from the bathroom sink area.

My #1 complaint:

My room was located on the upper level directly across from the pool. The pool does not close till 10pm. ( should be closed by 8pm if you ask me)I was there for 4 nights and 3 out of the 4 I was there , there was always a loud commotion by the pool area. So forget about trying to sleep until after then or trying to take a short nap during the day after family outings. If you dare stay here because it is so cheap, then ask for a room that does not face the pool area.

My main complaint is that 2 of the nights I was there at the end of May the hotel was quite filled up by many people who had no consideration for the others who were staying at the hotel.

There was a constant flow of guests and a few other undesirables walking around on the premises continually yelling, laughing, running, talking loudly, slamming doors ( and these were adults mind you not kids). There were a couple of people talking loudly by my door that woke me up at 2am. Also A few cars came into the parking lot playing their loud music and set a few car alarms off, which woke me up again..and woke up the few dogs that some people just had to bring along, barking wildy. ( please I love dogs , even have one myself, but I leave them home with a pet sitter ) I never once saw a security guard ( there should be one walking around to send people without room cards off the premises or to quell the loud people walking about). I was literally scared to even walk out of my room after dark just to get ice or to go to the bar for a drink.

I was told not to stay anywhere on Victory Drive because that area is a bad area. I never once saw a police car patrolling that area. ( They must be scared too)

Now for My next trip down I will not dare stay anywhere on Veterans Parkway either. While on my first trip we had a rental car and there are much better places though more expensive to stay at. I would suggest staying near the Peachtree Mall , Columbus Airport areas or up near the shopping areas Further up off of of Veterans Parkway.

66 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I hated my stay. I reserved a two room suite for my son and his family (6 people).

The bedroom was a good size, but what would have been another bedroom was too small and dark. The windows were just across the ceiling. The room was divided into sitting room and bathroom, dressing room, refrigerator, and a microwave. Besides it being too small and dark, there was way too much of the wrong kind of furniture. There was a stand with drawers which held the TV, a long table, a round table with two chairs, a love seat which pulled out into a bed, and a coffee table. Where was the room for six people to sit and relax or eat or visit with others on the trip? I expected a real suite with room, light, and a good atmosphere for visiting and relaxing. You couldn't even move around, say nothing of relaxing.

The people were friendly and service was good what there was. The breakfast could have been healthier. They could have had fresh fruit instead of canned and real cereal instead of sugared imitation. The grits had tons of butter in them and only mild and water to drink. They could have had orange juice or apple juice and oatmeal and Total or some better cereal.

I really was most disappointed in the rooms. After all, I reserved what constituted five nights and felt like I was in the dungeon. I hated it. Also, I did not like the little perfume squirter. It was horrible to smell.

And when I asked for a room near my son, I was given a smoking room when I had reserved a non-smoking room. The smell was awful and I had to keep the heat off to feel I could even breathe. There was an offer to see some other rooms, but once you get in the room and have places to get to, it is a pain in the neck to pack up and move.

I liked their very low amounts for weekly stays, and their friendly assistance over everything.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Howard Johnson Columbus.
I might recommend it to friends.
