the overall hotel experience at hotel del cornado was awesome. it was really nice and peaceful. the front desk and other employees were polite and good people.
I want to start off by saying that my fiance and I chose the Hotel del above all other Southern California locations to host our wedding next year. My fiance's family has 3 generations of Navy officers that were stationed in Coronado, so it was ...

So I have a knack for picking out some of the nicest places to stay, but I learned my lesson on this trip, nice is not always the best. We booked online and was unaware of the $25 a day mandatory resort charge, that includes the same things that you get at a holiday inn (like an in room coffee maker) except for the broken down beach chairs that warrant a free massage for even sitting in them. The circulation on the grounds is borderline retarded, you cant find your way around at all because of the piss poor layout of the hotel. Nothing is free at the del, and if you are visiting san diego, visit san diego and stay away. California is expensive as it is and the 200% mark up at the del will find its way into your checking account, if you go. The beach is man made and the waves are flat, and the beach directly behind the hotel is a no swim zone because of 'underwater obstructions' (they exist we saw a woman get carted off to the hospital because of her foot kicking something, then the lifeguards promptly shifted their signs further apart claiming more of the beach) also there are weddings almost every night ( the waiting list is 2 years long) and the place is rampant with noisy spoiled brats that are in good need of a slaping. If you rent a car on coronado island park in the neighborhoods it is free, at the del you are charged $23 a day or $15 an hour, this makes renting a car pointless. My suggestion to anyone considering the del as a place to stay, DONT DO IT. just visit the del instead, stay in la jollia of pacific beach where you can get a real west coast experience, not the same rich fake people that you see on every vacation because you want to stay at "the nicest hotel" because chances are you will be at sea world or the zoo, ect...
We won't go back to the Del, ever.

Horrible
For $1,600 a night for a studio suite you would think that the maids could actually vacuum the sand up off the floor and maybe empty and clean the hot tub. Call me crazy, but I would have thought they could have collected the coffee cups up and...
57 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business
The hotel is exceptional. It has kept the feel of the turn of the century. Anyone an stay at a "new" hotel, but the del is an experience - not a hotel. The brunch in the Crown Room on Sunday, although expensive is an experience in the atmosphere of dining and the food is exceptional. I have stayed here a number of times and alway find it breathtaking to drive up to this wonderful hotel. The 'ghost' and the story only add to the experience. This is not just a hotel but an experience not to be missed. Sure it can be expensive to stay and dine here. But "the del" is not to be missed. Service was mixed but it was on average better than most luxury hotels - I cannot wait to visit again. As for working at the hotel - the staff was so helpful, the tours can be much on the nerves of a planner, however, just think of staying in a hotel that people want to tour!
