Opened in the late 1990s, this revamped 1930s motor court is the epitome of SoCo cool. It's got retro appeal, with small porches and a small pool, and it's right across the street from the famed Continental Club, which means lots of musicians and their handlers stay here. There are nods to local design -- red Spanish tile roofs, cowhide throw rugs, and Texas pine beds -- but the dominant theme is Zen, with Japanese-style outdoor landscaping and rooms so stripped down they border on the stark, though they do have the Austin high-tech basics of high-speed Internet access plus VCRs and/or DVD players and CD players. You'll get more amenities for your money elsewhere, but you won't get a hipper scene. Book a room in the back to avoid the Congress Avenue traffic noise.

Excellent
pros: Service, attractivenesskcf78749's lack of insight and her date's poor manners, coupled with only a patio visit, are no reason to give anything (not to mention such a marvelous place) 3 stars. Obviously, someone can read her review and see she ...
pros: ambienceI've never actually stayed at this hotel, so I can't comment on the hotel aspect of it, but it's a great place for a first date. My date and I had some wine out on the patio, by the pool, and it was lovely. However, once I "broke the ...

Okay
When I saw the overall rating on this hotel, I got excited. Then, I read the reviews. They're pretty overwhelmingly weighted toward the staff being terribly rude. The high ratings mostly refer to the ambiance of the place - not the people...

Mediocre
On this particular day, several large conventions were being held in the downtown Austin area so there were no rooms available, not even as far out as the airport. The gal who took my call, offered me a room that had just become available due to a...

I've always heard great things about the Hotel San Jose and being familiar with South Congress Street, know it to be in a great location, which is why it's hard to write anything negative about the place. I'll let my review do the...

pros: Ambience, Location, Rooms, Service, Value While in Austin I stayed several nights at Hotel San Jose. I loved it...the cool, clean, comfortable rooms were just what I was looking for. It's a very unique...amazingly decorated and pristine...
I stayed at this hotel because it is right across the street from the Continental Club. I was pleasantly surpirsed that I was also withhin walking distance from many shops and restaurants, plus a wonderful coffee bar!
something is going on at the San Jose, but we can't figure out what it is......???
Minimalist? We'd say bare- concrete floors with a tacky faux fur rug, a heavy sliding "barn" door for a bathroom door. Not a comfortable place to sit in the...
The place was clean and the decor simple and nice. It's close to entertainment, shopping, and dining. I recommend this hotel. Oh yeah--I stayed in a room with a great rate.
I work in the hotel business (boutique) and wherever I travel, I like to stay in something OTHER than a chain hotel. This is a great hotel! Cute from the inside out... reminiscent of an old style roadway motel stop. Great courtyard where there is ...
