Privately owned and operated, the historic Hotel San Carlos in the heart of downtown Phoenix offers you personalized service and warm hospitality in a charming, European style atmosphere. Blocks away from the Phoenix Convention Center, major sports arenas, shopping and museums. Built in 1928 and constructed by nationally known architects in an Italian Renaissance Design. A major Phoenix attraction for several decades, celebrities such as Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Spencer Tracy, Carol Lombard, and others spent time here over the years.

43 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
This hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is indeed charming. The adjacent restaurant is also historic and served an excellent dinner meal with an impressive wine list and wonderful ambience. But I was unprepared for the constant approach by the homeless for food or money on the corner where this hotel is located. The bed in my room was lopsided and obviously worn, but the room itself was lovely and had numerable amenities. The bathroom was the smallest I've been in anywhere in the world, but was to be expected as the hotel was built in 1928. The service by all staff members was outstanding. The airport is a very easy drive to and from the Phoenix SkyHarbor Airport and easy to find from I-17.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the Hotel San Carlos.
I might recommend it to friends.
