Okay
What's that saying - "you get what you pay for?" This hotel is a great value, but located just inside the Tenderloin district. It's impossible to enter or leave the property without being accosted by an unsavory character, and there was actually a...

Horrible
While this hotel is a "good value", you take your personal safety in hand. During my stay, there was a murder four blocks away. There is no doorman the only security I saw was in talking to front desk attendant or reading a book. This hotel needs...

Mediocre
The hotel is adorable, but the neighborhood is dangerous and the bed in the room was a brick with a sheet on it. I just didn't understand having a flat screen TV and such a bad bed. I will not likely stay here again.
59 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
We just spent three nights at the Metropolis. I had read some "not so great" reviews but since we had already booked it, we went anyway. We had no regrets at all. Funky is a good way to describe it.
The personnel were helpful and gracious. Our room, although small, was adequate for our needs. I had read bad things about the area but we didn't find any problems. Car parking is expensive, but then, it is all over SF. Its close to Union Square shopping and walking distance to Chinatown. We taxied to the Wharf and back (cheaper than parking again). The rooms were inexpensive but worth more, in my opinion. We loved the place and would go back in a heartbeat.

Good
My room was extremely clean, but a bit small, typical for an older building in SF. There was only one straight-backed chair, which made relaxing difficult. The staff was very kind, & helpful. I'd stay there again if they put comfy chairs in the...

Okay
This hotel was OK and a good rate for the area. Beware the address is on Mason but the entrance is on Turk St. The lobby and the room was nice but the bathroom was run down and could have been cleaner.

Okay
The price is definitely right for the value. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. The walls are thin so a noisy conversation next door will keep you awake. Also, the location is near a poorer area.

Spent two evenings. While it is pleasing on the inside, Saturday evening was difficult. The hotel is situated on the edge of the Tenderloin District. Couple the insufficient windows with the street life on Market Street and you have a recipe for...

Reviewers that complain about the neighborhood should remember that Market St. has been sketchy since time immemorial. Yes there are plenty of homeless, but this hotel is stylish (though with tiny rooms) in a perfect location for Moscone and Union...
