member icon The Best in NYC!

38 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I have been coming to New York City every December for the past five years and have stayed at the Elysee every time. It's a fabulous experience! The location is perfect for getting around Manhattan. If you're like me and like to go shopping downtown but love seeing the museums uptown this is the perfect location. The staff was always generous, friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable of the city. I was recommended a few amazing places to have lunch and dinner all right in the neighborhood just a few blocks away. The rooms are amazing! Love the decor and find them more than spacious. I am barely in the room anyway... being in NEW YORK CITY I wanted to be out and about as much as possible. I love being in the Elysee so much I plan time to spend inside... whether that be in my room relaxing or in the club room with a coffee or wine and cheese. If you want to spend time in NYC and be able to get away from the hustle & bustle when you need to relax... the Elysee is definitely the place for you.

I love this hotel! The decor is charming; the service was excellent; and the rooms are lovely. I absolutely prefer the Elysee to any "big name" hotel in the city. I will definitely return.

Not what I Expected

Pluses - The location is very convenient for the sights of Manhattan. The complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres were good. The complimentary continental breakfast was average. Minuses - Not what one would expect for the price. I stayed a week with a group and we had rooms on various floors in the hotel. We looked at each other's rooms. Some were very small, all had extremely small bathrooms, some had no minibar. At least 3 rooms on each floor are next to the elevators and you can hear them at all times. I was surprised the soaps were never changed and they were getting thin by the end of the week. My radiator clanged, banged and gurgled loud enough to wake me a couple of times a night. I reported it and was told, the system is old nothing can be done about it. One of my friends had no heat for 2 nights because it took that long to fix a faulty thermostat. The hotel states they have a concierge service, but when I asked about the harbor tours, I was give a couple of brochures, one dated 2005, that was it. Service was at best mediocre. (Get used to opening the front doors yourself) Even if they cut the price in half, I would not go back.

My friends and I spent a Friday and Saturday at the Hotel Elysee during New York City's Restaurant Week and had a fabulous time. The room, with two double beds, was spacious enough for three women and the hotel was centrally located to all of the restaurants where we were dining for Restaurant Week. Plus, great shopping was all just steps from the hotel! And we LOVED the bathroom amenities. The room was quiet and well-appointed and it was so nice to come back after shopping and relax in the Club Room with a glass of wine and some cheese. And then after our Broadway Show we came back and had tea and cookies! On Saturday morning, the complimentary Continental Breakfast was great -- as was the use of the free computer and printer in the Club Room. Plus the staff was so fabulous -- they cleaned out our coffee cups from the car when they valet parked it and the front desk clerk gave us directions to all the Sephora stores downtown. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to spend time in a great New York City hotel whether for business or pleasure!
