My visit coincided with a football game (& the hordes of cheering USC students), and so I payed a really hefty premium the first night. But apart from that circumstance, well maintained room at a decent price, nice location close to campus. And very very friendly staff. That was the best part I think. Oh, but I used room service for breakfast, apparently the stuff was coming up from the in-house restaurant Henry's-and, well the food was okay, but it didn't really live up to the price tag.

Okay
I chose Hotel Durant for its convenient location to UC-Berkeley. The staff was consistenly friendly & helpful: the hotel was very good about accomodating me for my early arrival. However, overall I found the hotel overpriced: the room (supposedly a...
Although the hotel was fine, I noticed a small problem with my bill resulting from my charging breakfast to my room on two different days. The charges that I approved in the restaurant were not the charges that appeared on my hotel bill - guess...

Horrible
Sure, it is close to Berkeley. Sure, the staff members are friendly and nice. However, there is nothing positive about this place that can make up for the fact that the walls are paper thin. In fact, I'm not sure that something in the structure (the ...

The location could not have been better for a visit to UCLA. Its old-fashioned charm suited my family, seven of us in two rooms. The accommodations were close but comfy. Everything was great. The people could not have been more helpful. My mother and I have trouble getting around, but they accommodated us very well. The bar and restaurant had excellent food and service. Local people dropped by for lunch and a beer. Its within walking distance to the shops near campus. Its a bit noisy on Saturday night due to protests. There is no air conditioning, but it was unnecessary. I wouldn't take kids there that are likely to climb up on the window sills as there are no screens or grates across the windows. I loved it, as did my eighty-seven year old mother, nineteen year old and sixteen year old nieces, eleven-year-old nephew, brother-in-law, and sister. It was fun and pleasant. I would go back.
The bar and restaurant had the World Cup on the wide screen televisions. My nephew educated us on the intricacies of each team and when he faltered on facts, the staff filled in, and when they didn't know, they asked someone who might. Everyone made us feel welcome and they treated us like we were treasured guests in their home.
I am very likely
to return to the Hotel Durant.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
Great location but hotel is pretty average

Good
The Durant is very well situated, close to UC Berkeley campus and is a convenient walk to pretty much any university location. I was there for graduation with my wife and mother and so we had two rooms in the hotel. My mom's, which was booked...

Good
Several reviewers have commented on the lack of AC and the noise. AC was not an issue as the windows open very wide and it almost always cools off in the evening. The hotel was a bit noisy and yes, you can hear fellow guests. That's what you get...
1. The room was tiny (if you had the armoire with the TV in it open, you could not fit through). It was hot while we were there, no ventilation or air conditioning. There was a ceiling fan. And if you use a blow drier, you may blow the circuitry ...

Excellent location, but a little pricey for what it is. It was a nice, clean room, but the room and bath are not very large. I paid around $150 for one night of stay. It is located one block away from campus, and there is on-site parking for your car, and parking is very difficult to find in Berkeley, and the streets are metered, so this was a plus.
An obvious downside to this hotel is that there is no air conditioner, and can get warm during the summers.
Downstairs is a bar/restaurant, very nice place to get some drinks (I didnt eat there though). Also, very convenient to tons and tons of eating places near campus, you can get a nice meal for under 10 bucks, more likely to be closer to 5 bucks! The hotel also has a nice sitting area/lounge downstairs, and the staff is overall pretty friendly, about average though.
