The Hotel Baker is a very clean and very comfortable hotel. Its location on the Fox River is excellent for scenery and great for an evening walk in spring, summer and fall. It is in easy walking distance from a large number of restaurants and bars, all of varying menu and atmosphere. The Baker's "in house" cocktail bar and restaurant have a high class feel, but so too is the cost of wining and dining. Having said that, if you wish to impress a client or friend, it is good value for money. This is not a Holiday Inn or Hilton, it is an historic hotel which has been maintained in the original style and is very authentic throughout. No two rooms are the same in layout or style, so return visits are always interesting. Sure, it is not a perfect establishment, but for its character and location, it is easy to overlook some minor issues.
56 year old with a economy budget, traveling for leisure
My wife stayed at the Hotel Baker on on Friday, March 13. Should have known that, on such a day, her luck would be bad. The traffic noise from the main drag through St. Charles is constant. But it was the major fight that erupted in a nearby room at 2 a.m., and again at 3:30 a.m. that really ruined her stay. As far as she could tell, no effort was made to quiet the oafs. When she checked out the next morning, the desk clerk wouldn't even look at her and must have gotten a earful from other guests. If a hotel doesn't enforce "quiet time," it's doomed.
A beautiful hotel, but NEVER, EVER again would we stay there.
Legend in St. Charles says that this hotel is haunted by the orignal owners. Great hotel though!!!! Very nice and highly recommended. Very Romantic and seXXXy.
59 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business
I have stayed at this hotel several times on business and I love the comfort and feel of this hotel. It is walking distance of several restaurants, the rooms are unique, the beds are comfy and the pillows are feather! The walls may be a bit thin, but a good pair of ear plugs makes up for that.

Stayed here for our wedding night because it had a great view of the river and was historic, unlike it's competitor the Herrington. Big mistake. It was ok, but I've stayed at much cheaper hotels that were more enjoyable. The noise from the guests in the next room was awful; the walls are paper-thin. The hotel staff made no attempt to treat us specially for our honeymoon, even though I had let the hotel know in advance, and we walked in still wearing the gown/tux. I would recommend the Herrington instead, I've since heard that it is much better.
My husband and I stayed here in October 2006. We had such an enjoyable time, and will definately return the next time we are in St. Charles, IL. If available, ask for the 6th floor Presidential Suite. It's worth the few extra dollars- huge...
The property is beautiful, but it is plagued by the deceptive, difficult wedding coordinators that they hire. We have had appointments canceled, given misleading contracts, and generally unflexible staff.
I was highly impressed with this property. Being a business traveller, it was warm and friendly and VERY comfortable. I was told that the hotel had been retored - an excellent job. The staff was pleasant. It was almost as though we had the hotel ...
