30 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
This is a new hotel, approximately 3 months since opening my friend and I stayed there a recent Friday night through Sunday morning (12/2007). The location is NOT Soho as indicated, rather it is in the heart of Chinatown. The rooms are small, comparable to what a prison cell may feel like. The shower head in the bathroom has the force of a light drizzle and goes from cold, to scalding, to scalding, to cold. However, the worst experience was when the hotel maid cleaned my room, which included removing a brand new pair of boots I had purchased the evening before at Shoegasm. When I brought the error to the attention of the hotel staff, they chose to believe their staff over a customer who had spent $850 to stay there for 2 nights. They continue to assert their maid and the trash supervisor did not see a pair of boots when cleaning the room or sorting through the trash. However, someone entered my room and took the box, which contained a brand new pair of boots I purchased. The hotel is refusing to be reasonable in refunding my loss and instead would rather I report this to NYPD and then to their insurance company. Both managers I communicated with, Julie and Joseph Ngai, were less than helpful and maintained that this had never happened before. Mind you, the hotel has only been in operation for 3 months. Apparently I am the first of many to experience the incident. Beware of the staff, apparently mistakes are condoned and customers are wrong.
I am not likely to return to the Hotel Azure. I would not recommend it to friends.
