The hotel was okay, nothing remarkable. Our hotel room had a huge stain on the carpeting, wallpaper was peeling and it was dusty. We had no view and were right next to the elevator. Very strange sockets in the room that would not fit our...
33 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
The hotel is in one of the most recently developed parts of Edinburgh, so from the outside looks like your average modern plush hotel.
However inside it seemed steeped in ye olde-world Scottish charm. The porter took us to our large room and explained all the features - which seemed silly since it was all fairly comfortable and obvious. No new-fangled LCD TV or strange hotel entertainment system to cope with here.
The concierge was particularly helpful in trying to get us to locate our bearings. The hotel seemed isolated at first, but it soon became evident that with a little hill-walking you were smack bang in the Old Mile.
It advertises wi-fi but there seemed little sign of any official wi-fi in the rooms itself, and the guest internet downstairs was charging a high price. However, there was a free wi-fi network floating around the place somewhere which wasn't part of the hotel.
The breakfast at the hotel was exceptional - continental buffet and you could order a variety of cooked items from a menu. The sausages weren't necessarily the high standard I've come to expect from Edinburgh hotels but I'm particularly fussy in this regard.
The only flaw is the price - rather expensive for what you get.
