This was clearly The hotel when railroad travel was the norm. One could imagine the place around 1920 as a bustling hub. This hotel was remodeled a few year ago with modern features, like an elevator, but they keep the charm of an old hotel. The room we stayed in was more of a clean bed and breakfast room than a cookie cutter motel room. It had real furniture. The bathroom had old style fixtures but was as usable as any modern bath. (Yes, the rooms have private baths) The train station is across the street, so there are train noises, but they supply ear plugs if that bothers you.
The late check in is a little odd and if you want to leave early, the staff starts late. The restaurant attached to the lobby is a brew pub with a large menu. Our meal was quite tasty. Clearly it is popular with the locals.
This place was a pleasant surprise we found on a cross country road trip in June 2008.
