I must say this hotel was the worst Holiday Inn that I've ever stayed at. My Fire Department members stayed here for The Louisiana State Fireman's Association conference. Over the 3 day stay many things were apparent. To begin with, they canceled our rooms after we had made reservations months in advance and they had given us confirmation numbers. They finally straightened that problem out, but had the department members scattered throughout the hotel, after we had the rooms reserved in a block so all members could be together. I can't believe this hotel was recently remodeled. The elevator floor tiles were loose, and poorly layed. The hallways were filthy, they looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. There were stains in the carpets of the halls. The elevators were hot, noisy, and smelled and would almost stall at times. One member's room had fire ants in it and he was bitten many times after taking his shirts out of the drawers. Another member had to change rooms several times. The first time his room smelled overwhelmingly of urine, the hotel's response to the problem was air freshener, which did not help. They were then moved to another room, which turned out to be worse. The A/C quit working and they were told maintenance was off and they couldn't do anything about it 'till Monday and they had no more rooms to give. Shortly after that, while getting ready for the formal banquet, his wife had the hair-dryer short out while she was using it and burned her hair. She ended up having to cut her hair to make the banquet. They ended up cramming into another member's room. The hospitality room we were given for the weekend was horrible. The 1st day there, we had to have housekeeping come in to clean the room, it had trash and a terrible smell. They provided no clean table clothes. The room had a severe mold and mildew problem. The room smelled the entire weekend, again they tried the air freshener. The following day we had to trash several items of sealed food due to fire ants in them and on the tables. We had to go ask for a vacuum each day as housekeeping would not clean the room. One room had exposed live electrical plug-ins behind the head of the bed. (Which has been reported to the Fire Marshal's office). The stairwells had cigarette butts in them and stunk like a toilet. No water pressure, it took 30 minutes to fill the tub with enough water to take a bath. The water never got cold. It was always warm or hot. The bathtubs were stained. During the entire stay my room was never vacuumed, nor was the hallway. In my room the moulding around the window was rotting and paint was peeling. The A/C unit looked to have some type of mold or fungus growing in the vents. The front of the A/C unit actually fell off due to the vibration of the unit. You actually had to slam your room door to get it to shut completely. Parking was horrible, if you have a large pick-up you will find it hard to park in front, they is barely any room to back-up without having someone spot you. The buffet breakfast is not that great for $7.95 a person. They have 2 luggage carts for the entire hotel. It took over an hour to get a cart to use. The shuttle service is very slow, you can walk the few blocks most times to the casinos and beat the shuttle, which happened several times, the driver was not friendly at all, and seemed irritated at being asked to take you to the casinos or expo hall area. The staff was helpful when you asked for help. They also gave us a refund for 2 nights of rooms that had problems. But overall the hotel is a mess. As the Chief I can safely say that my department will NOT stay at this facility again.
