Holiday Inn Harbor View in Downtown San Diego is a good choice to stay at. They offer free shuttle to San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and the airport. The Gaslamp district is within walking distance. The hotel is very close to Hwy 5 entrance.

Hotel sits right on the freeway and was very loud at night. Room was cramped and a bit dingy - looks like it was updated about 6-10 years ago and it needs another. The hotel staff acted like I was crazy for requesting a king bed and even more crazy...
