I traveled to Charleston for an advertising conference with several team members. Upon booking, we reserved double rooms with rollaway beds to ensure that everyone on the team had a bed. When we arrived, we were told that we could not use rollaway b
We arrived at 2 PM but were told to wait until 3 PM (check-in time). No rooms were clean at 3 PM and we were told to check back each half hour. At 4 PM, they began assigning rooms.

51 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for business
We were there with a group for a 2 day conference. Arrived Tuesday, March 18th, with checkout Wednesday, March 19th. Got the keys to our room and proceeded to check it out. I opened the door and the bed was unmade and there was a suitcase on the floor and clothes all over the place. Obviously an occupied room. I closed the door and went back down stairs. So, we drug our luggage back down stairs and was given keys to another room.
So, up the elevator we go again and go down the hall (which stunk like cat urine) and opened the door only to find a man pulling up his pants. We were thoroughly embarrassed.
We drug our luggage back down stairs and I asked to speak to the manager. The man at the desk said he was the PM manager. I told him I wanted the general manager. He said she was on vacation and wouldn't be back for a few days. (how convenient) He gave us another set of keys and I refused to to up and check it out. He sent Tina (very sweet person) up to check out our room and it was not occupied, so we went to our room.
Then we started hearing of others having the same experience. So, we were afraid to even leave our suitcases in the room. When we went to bed, we found out our dead bolt on the door didn't even work, so we lodged a chair up against the door so if someone opened it, it wouldn't open all the way.
We were told that their computer hard drive had crashed 5 days ago and they were trying to run the hotel on a paper system. Some of us had no lights except for the bathroom light and the little light at the door. We couldn't turn our light off, so we had to unscrew the bulb.
Now for our meetings. We were supposed to have a snack for our afternoon break. We had a room of approximately 35 people and we had coffee, 2 pitchers of iced tea, a small basked containing 2 apples 2 oranges 2 bananas and some grapes. After our meeting reconvened they brought in about 15 Fig Newtons, a pitcher of orange juice and a pitcher of cranberry juice. Continental breakfast was to be provided, but at 10 minutes before 8am, no signs of anything. A few of us went to get breakfast in the small main floor restaurant (which wasn't too bad). We went back to our meeting rooms and saw they finally brought the continental breakfast. Keep in mind this is March 19th, 2008. Of the food they provided for breakfast, all the milk was expired, saw one yogurt container that expired March 10, 2008, and another one expired in April 2007. That is not a typo....2007. We had the same basket of fruit. A few granola bars that expired on July 7, 2007. 2 pitchers of water, 1 pitcher of orange juice and 1 pitcher of cranberry juice. Our mid-morning break consisted of more of the expired yogurt and more of the expired granola bars.
As far as the staff. Poor Tina, she was trying her best to assist everyone but there was nothing she could do. The girl behind the counter was, to say the least, frustrated at the situation. Another lady kept coming from the back but I never figured out what she was doing. NOW, for the guy working, aka the PM manager. He was a total JERK!. We listened to him tell one lie after another trying to cover up his inability to handle the situation. He didn't have a clue as to what was going on or what he needed to do. He needs a different job!!!
The hotel is old. It smelled old and dirty. There was mold in the shower. It needs some major repair. You took your life in your own hands everytime you got on the elevator. One of the 3 elevators stopped 3-4 inches below the level of floor so you had to step up out of it.
