We stayed at this hotel for the 4th of July week with my husband, myself, and my 1 year old daughter. Overall, I was very pleased with this hotel and will stay there again.
I don't recommend the on site restaurant or ordering room service, and although the food is decent, the prices are over the top. For example I ordered 1 Belgian Waffle $7.00, 3 Orange Juices $7.50, Hot Tea $1.50 & a small bowl of fruit $4.00. Somehow this ended up being almost 30.00 they have a delivery charge of 18% plus a tax of 10% and then they charge you $2.00 more per entree item. This goes for the Pizza Hut on site as well. I recommend if are staying here that you get your food from the Shuttle which is a little cafe type place that is also on site. You'll pay about half of what you would with room service for mostly the same things. There aren't really any nice restaurants around this hotel but there are a few chains McDonalds, Quiznos, & Starbucks are within walking distance.
DC is a very, very expensive city to visit, making it hard to stay on any kind of a budget, but where we lost the most money was on food, it is ridiculously overpriced and that goes for most of the city restaurants as well. There is a placed called Harry's that has great burgers but sodas are $2.50 with no refills, draft beer was $4.00, and a burger is $8.95 but fries are $2.25 extra.
We went to the pool twice while we were there and it was a horrible experience. We tried to let our daughter float in her boat she was jumped over, kicked and just knocked everywhere we literally had to barricade ourselves around her. The life guard is useless he's about 16 and does nothing. There were kids running everywhere and doing flips on the ropes there were a few adult guests sitting around drinking beer. I'm assuming these are the parents that should have been watching their kids.
Our room was very large, we had a fridge that worked OK. There are train tracks next to the hotel, so you might want to request a room over the courtyard.
