Newark Gateway great choice – Posted Mar 07, 2006

Good

I took my Girl Scout troop from California to this hotel in Feb 2006. We got newly renovated rooms that were very nice. There was a shuttle from the airport that cut down our costs. The location worked well since the hotel is connected to Penn...

You Get What You Pay For – Posted Nov 10, 2005

Okay

A hotel room with easy access to Manhattan that cost under $200 is going to have its compromises, and this one has plenty.

The rooms arn't foul but they are minimally clean. The shower is spacious but leaks out onto the floor and even...

Miserable experience – Posted Nov 02, 2005

Horrible

I stayed at the Gateway 6 years ago and it is clearly evident that no, zero, nada capital improvement money has been spent since then.

Unfortunately, I stay at the Gateway for business week after week due to its location in proximity to ...

Not what I expected – Posted Oct 18, 2005

Mediocre

I stayed in the Gateway 20 years ago. It doesn't look like any capital improvement money was spent since then.

Beds were soft and mushy. The...

This is not a hotel I would strongly recommend. The rooms are OK, but a bit grungy. You are right next to Penn Station in Newark. Which is great for catching a train into Manhattan. But the downside was that I could hear the train announcements all night. And Newark is Newark.

Mediocre
22 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for business

Understaffing would have seemed to be the biggest problem, from the time you request something to the time you received assistance was often a long period of time. Some employees who were there on a regular basis were just not 'people friendly'.
