44 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

I was looking to take my daughters on an inexpensive beach vacation. Since the price of gas is outrageous and HHI is only 5 hours away from us, I decided to check out the Metropolitan Hotel. I booked through Priceline for $65 per night (Thurs-Sun) Our room was roomy with a microwave and refrigerator. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a complimentary continental breakfast, though very limited from 7-9am daily, so I was able to take breakfast back to the room for the girls to have when they woke up. There is a short walk to the beach. This is not a beach front property. If you like brousing the gift shops, there are all kinds of shops about a mile away at Coligny Circle. There is a clean pool and and a small business center with a computer so that you can check your email (or myspace.com in my daughters' case) with a 20 min. time limit. On the downside, parking spaces were limited on the weekend so I had to park a distance away on Fri. and Sat. night...but it was within walking distance. The balconies were small, which was no big deal for us. We only hung our beach towels out there to dry. The lighting in our room was a little dim and the maid service only provided us with 3 towels daily. There was 4 of us so I had to go ask for extra towels each day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget. Do not expect the Hilton or even the Holiday Inn because it is certainly not that. But you will get a clean hotel that is near the beach at a low rate.

This place is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I have stayed in over thirty hotels in my lifetime and none of them were this bad. The staff is not helpful at all they could care less about the rooms falling apart which they were the wall in our bathroom fell in the balcony had cracks all in it and the top of it was hanging down and the hallways smelled like urine and our refrigerator barely worked the stove did not work at all and there were no pots and pans the whole stay was horrible and if you are smart you will read all the reviews and stay as far away from this place as you can, because it is worthless and it will ruin you vacation!!!!!

No matter how cheap you can book a room at the Metropolitan, it is not worth it. The place is filthy. We stayed for 2 nights in June of 2007. There were open bags of trash sitting out in the halls. No pillow cases on the pillows. Stains on the comforters. No outlet covers. Bugs in the rooms, no towels. Apparently no towels is the norm in this hotel. No parking. Honestly, there are only about 10 real parking spaces for guests. The hotel is a complex. The building in the pictures may not be the building you actually stay in. The building in the back houses the hotel staff and their pets. It smells terrible and is in worse shape than the one pictured. The hotel staff is rude and unaccommodating. Everyone we talked to did not speak English and are unwilling to help you. Guests were unable to check in past 9 p.m. on one of the nights we were there. The hotel ran out of key cards and were not letting people in their rooms. Key cards did not often work and we were locked out of our room often. As a family with children, we kept the "Do not Disturb" sign out because I did not trust the hotel staff to be in the room. They certainly aren't interested in cleaning. Read every review that you can before choosing this hotel and believe every word of them. There are only a few decent reviews of this place and there are over 3 years old. Things certainly have went down hill (and off the cliff) since then. The hotel was rated 35 out of 36 hotels on the island. I would honestly hate to see #36. This hotel should be checked out by both the BBB and the police. It is criminal for the Metropolitan to charge people so they can throw their money away and ruin their vacations. Sleep in your car or on the beach, you will be better off!

I never write reviews but this one I feel I have to warn people. My husband, my 2 children and I booked 5 days at this Hotel. When we got there, they had to move us to three different rooms before they found one that had been cleaned. The second day we were there they stripped the wallpaper down our hall and under the wall paper was MOLD! It was everywhere! I called the front desk and told them about this problem and that she was aware of it but they still never did anything. I was afraid that my girls would get sick because of it. We were there for four days and we never got are rooms cleaned and we were using the same towels. Now you can imagine at the beach with the sand we needed them changed more often than that. In our room the curtains fell down and we called the maintenance man. He came and promised he would put them back up the next day but he never returned. So we were without curtains in our room the rest of the time. I felt dirty and not on vacation because I was too stressed about the mold, towels, privacy, filth, and safety. We finally left early and booked a room at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront. It was a little more money but it was so worth it. I finally felt like my vacation started except we were leaving the next day. I would never stay here again and I certainly don't want anyone one else to go through what my family went through. Please it is not worth the cheapest price. A vacation is supposed to be relaxing! I hope this helps! Have a great vacation!

The nightly rate I received was very good, but I'd rather pay three times as much to stay else where. The internet service did not work and we were told that the had service men there for the last several days, but they just couldn't get it working. We had no towels in the room when we checked in and no remote to the TV. It appeared that the room was being used to house hotel workers on the weekdays, but was made available to us for the weekend. The smell leading to the room and inside of the room was most likely old urine. There was a box spring and matress outside of our room door for the two days we were there, which was most likely the source of the urine smell.

This place doesn't deserve a score. It should be shut down or torn down and replaced.
