Very clean. Front desk personnel were helpful and friendly. Large, pleasant lobby with coffee bar and ample supply of daily newspapers. Good exercise room. Short walk to the beach and ocean pier. Off-season traffic much lighter than summer traffic jams. Need to get above first floor for ocean view.
I am very likely
to return to the Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Is this a Hilton?. We stayed here during the busy weekend of July 1-3 (2 nights). In summary, this hotel has above average facilities and way below average services (I am comparing with other Inn  types such as holiday inns and comfort inns etc., given that this is a low end of the Hilton chains). The lobby and the first floor furnishings were pretty and clean. There was a nearby pier which we liked very much. On the other hand, the services were simply terrible, even if you allow for the fact that it was the July 4 weekend. I will only list three worst ones since there were too many. 1. We did not get the daily maid service on the 2nd day, despite repeated requests for one. The last one I made was at around 5PM (my third request) before we went out for dinner. We came back at 8:30 PM, and still the room had not been cleaned. When I called the lobby again, the attendant said that the cleaning crew left for the day! -- and all she could do was to replace towels and remove the trash can (which she did). I have never been at a hotel where they miss daily maid services, and even worse, virtually ignore the repeated requests. 2. I reserved the room two months ahead, specifically asking for a room located on the 2nd floor or above. Upon check-in, I learned that my room was on the first floor. When asked for a room change, they said that then they cannot give me an oceanfront (called beachfron) room. So I stuck with the 1st floor oceanfront room (for which I paid extra). It turns out that there were wooden fences between the ocean and the hotel which blocked the view of the ocean for first floor rooms. 3. In general, the hotel crews were not friendly, most displaying I-don't-care, nonchalant attitude. I did not expect lots of smiling faces, but at least I expected Hilton's staff to have professional attitudes. For example, at breakfast, my wife ordered a Decaf coffee, and the waitress brought a cold coffee. When I asked it to be replaced, she brought it in a paper cup. In summary, it was $[...]night not well spent. In my opinion, the crews working here should not be in a hospitality business, and the hotel should not bear a Hilton name. Or maybe it was because we were not welcome in this area. [...]
