The Hilo Bay Hotel is a tourist-class, oceanfront, resort hotel located just under three mile from General Lyman Airport. This resort has been owned and operated by a native Hawaiian family for over 30 years. The Hlio Bay Hotel offers a traditional Hawaiian décor, full service hotel amenities, and island-style hospitality at affordable rates. The famous Black Sand Beach is only a mile away, as is a snorkel/dive center and hiking. This is the perfect base camp from where to immerse one's self in the culture and wonders of east Hawaii. I would stay there again, but only because there are very few options in Hilo. Just beware: the rooms are nothing like the photos you see. The facilities our outdated and not spotless.
