We are very picky with hotel rooms .We saw most hotels in Montpelier-Barre area and finally decided to stay here. After careful review of rooms in the area ,Hilltop Inn provided best rate for the room value. We had no complaints.Rooms are clean, spacio
This is probably the best value in this area.Rooms are spacious and clean and very reasonably priced.By far the best in this area way cheaper than competition.

Hilltop Inn is conveniently located on exit 7 off I-89. We had a satisfying stay and were very pleased with the room and the service. The Restaurant was a good amenity and the pool was clean and warm. The room was clean and the price was right.
I stayed here as it was the best value

I recently stayed here on business. The clerk at check in seemed arrogant. He gave me my key (not a card, a metal key), as he walked away, I asked where my room was. His response as "Door 4" As he walked away agin, I asked where "Door 4" was. he said outside. I asked where outside. He pointed to the left side of the building. I located door 4 and immediatley noticed that is was completely unlocked. There was a hole in the door where the lock cylinder should have been. I entered the building and was confronted by an overwhelming chemical/medicinal odor. The odor was also present in the room, but not as strong.
In the room, I noticed that there is no chain or other mechanical lock on the door, only the lock switch on the door. Out of curiousity, I tested this lock by openning the door, and setting this lock. It openned using the key so the rooms are completely open to anyone with a copy of the key. I also noticed that the place was FILTHY. The toiliet is white porcelain, and the bowl looked brown and dingy as if it had not been cleaned in months. The soap and shampoo is supplied in a dispenser on the wall in the shower. The top of the dispenser was ajar and loose. The shampoo was an strange shade of brownish yellow.
I would have left immediately, but I was late getting to my job site so I dropped my luggage there, and went to work. I was very late returning, and decided just to stay for the night. I will never go back there again, and can not recomend it at all. The place is very insecure, with open unlocked exterior doors, minimal locks on the room doors. It smells as if they are hiding bodies there, and is dirty too.

This hotel was dirty, unsafe, moldy, dusty, old, unmaintained, unpainted, carpet unshampooed, linens old and stained, facilities ancient. No restaurant, (thankfully), gutters didn't work, rugs were soaking wet, awning were ripped and dirty, lobby was dark and dank. Whomever rated this as 2 stars must have been reading their own press releases because it was not habitable. I left after checking in, fully aware that I would lose the full amount that I paid with Priceline. I would not put my Mother-in-Law in this rat hole. Priceline actually gave me my money back. YAY Priceline, BOO Hilltop Inn.

I have traveled the continental US many times over, never have I experienced such a rude staff!
The ceilings in the bathrooms are covered with mold and the windows are infested with dead flies. The swimming pool opens at 2 pm and is unfit for swimming. If I had to stay in the Montpelier area and this was the only hotel with a room I would sleep in my car.
This motel gives Vermont a bad name, it truly is a beautiful state, just don't stay at The Hilltop inn!
