member icon Easter Trip with rotten egg hotel

46 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

My daughter and I took a trip from Texas to Louisiana mainly to visit family during the Easter Holiday. I was charged a premium rate for a single nasty room. The Hotel sign outside read $49.99 for single room with double or king bed. Just myself and my 11 year old daughter. I wanted a room close to my family and happen to see the bright sign at midnight. I expected to pay the advertised price other wise I am sure I would have chosen my regular hotel Days Inn close by as well. The night clerk possibly the owner was very hard to understand, after many attempts to secure the advertised price I settled for the price he charged for two nights at 69.99, Obviously he chose to take advantage of me. The amenities were listed at the desk , Coffee pot, Microwave, fridge ect. After a long drive we entered the room and began to unload , the room was filthy, the air cond would not stay on, I removed the air filter and it was clogged with thick black stuff, no coffee pot, lamp bulbs out, I called the front desk for coffee pot and light bulbs and was surprised at the response, "Oh do you need that to night"? I just walked to the desk and was given a dirty coffee pot , no filters no coffee, and handed two light bulbs, so I just went back to room, cleaned the filter took off the bed covers , on the third morning I was hoping for a person I could communicate with to discuss this matter and hopefully come to a resolution, at 11:00 am the maid was beating on the door, wanting to know If I was leaving, I had already phoned the Monday morning Mgr and was on my way to discuss this horrible situation, I will let you guess the rest, I was not even offered a discount for latter dates, no refunds, just , well I don't know why he charged you 69.99 for a 49.00 room , with this we left and will never return, I am assuming the night clerk was the owner and choose to take advantage of a mother and child who had traveled for 8 hours and was excited for a break in the hotel charges just to be given the shaft and not even an apology. I will never return to that rotten egg hotel.

37 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

When you take a quick overlook of this motel, things seem fine. The exterior conveys budget quality and the rooms are large with fridge and microwave. Not to forget the in-room internet connection.

However, there were holes in our couch, one covered with some stiff goo, there was an ant farm in our bathtub and the usual cigarette burns next to the toilet. The microwave had to be opened manually and the rotating plate inside was gone. The curtains could not be fully drawn... well, you get the point.

As for the outside, the staircase is icky, which may cause a problem to bacteria-fobes as you drag the dirt directly into the rooms.

The internet connection had low strength and the connection would work optimally only to slow down to the annoying (happened on two PC's - not just my laptop messing up).

I have some experience with motels as we road trip several weeks every year, and though this hotel is by far not the worst I have been to, it certainly is overpriced for what you get - 67$ for two persons on a Sunday.

Other than that, the check-in was friendly and though I did not try it out, the pool seemed OK. Some people were having fun there when we arrived.

Pets are allowed in some rooms, with charge. A sofa with coffee table is what we needed after the hard days work. The King suite has all that and more. The high speeed wireless internet is a good value.

The Deluxe Continental breakfast is served from 6:15 AM to 9:30 AM. They use real silverware and crockery, not the throw away plastic or foam.

I am very likely to return to the Highland Inn Denham Springs.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
