25 year old woman with a moderate budget

I don't even know where to begin.....

Our Wedding was at 2:30 p.m.

We got to the Hide Away Inn at about 11:30 a.m.

At noon, we were supposed to do a walk-through with the staff at the B&B. After that we were supposed to "just relax" while they sat everything up(we brought our own flowers and decorations). At 2:00, the minister was going to go over our ceremony details with us.

Well here's how that part really went.....

When we arrived, we went in to have a look at the reception area... The tables were set. Our wedding planner was not there at all that day. And the owner and staff were no where to be found. So we had to set everything up ourselves. We were all running around like crazy trying to get everything done before the guests arrived and the wedding started. At 2:05, we finally met with the minister and did our "walk-through". At 2:10, we went to our rooms to get ready. The ceremony started at 2:30. I was all sweaty from setting everything up and completely stressed out at that point and to make matters worse, I had less than 20 minutes to get my hair done, make-up on, get into my wedding dress and get out there to get married.

The ceremony went well. The minister was nice. One thing that kind of bothered me was that the groundskeeper decided to take the garbage out right in the middle of our ceremony in front of everyone.

Now about dinner... It was flavorless and pretty old tasting. We were charged for kid's meals that were never served. They were to consist of chicken fingers, fries and applesauce. After asking several times, they brought out a PAN of unidentifiable, cold breaded something, when everyone was finished eating already. Debbie, the Innkeeper, would not take that off the bill.

My husband and I had been saving a very important ($200) bottle of champagne for our wedding. We each had enough for our toast, about 1/2 a glass each. The groundskeeper came outside when we were saying good-bye to our guests and asked me to come inside with him. When I got in there, he asked me if I would like him to put the rest on ice. There was less than 1/2" of champagne left in the bottom of the bottle. The only people in there were the staff.

We purchased a keg at $250 for the reception. The staff helped themselves to it. That part did not bother me as much as the fact that we were charged $100 for a bartender that we did not recieve. Also, Debbie didn't tell us about a bartender fee until the night before the wedding. At which point we had already paid for the keg and were stuck. As the night went on, the groundskeeper got increasingly drunk and was saying very inappropiate, nasty things to every female guest that was there. We asked him several times to leave and he would not.

The breakfasts were terrible, everyone agreed. Me and my husband stayed one more night after the wedding. We were served the leftovers from the previous day's breakfast and they did not taste any better with age.

Everyone was overcharged for their rooms according to current rates. Everyone paid in advance and then when they went to check out, there were more charges for "tax and other stuff". Our room was full of ants and there was a dirty old fly swatter sitting on the coffee table.

Debbie came in in the morning before we checked out and added about $250 in overcharges and things that were not ordered or delivered to our bill and ran a credit card without permission. Then after she did that. she left without telling us about it. When we wanted to talk to her about it, Krys called her and she said "You will just have to file a dispute with your credit card company. I am not removing any of the charges."

Well we did that and she refuses to work with us. The credit card company contacted the B&B twice and were placed on hold by someone in the office. Debbie never picked up the phone and eventually disconnected the call each time.

When they finally got her on the phone, she was very rude and not willing to correct any of this nightmare.

It's sad how this has all turned out. It should have been one of the best days of our lives but everytime I think about it, I feel anxiety. This is a very poorly run business that completely lacks integrity and empathy.

39 year old woman with a moderate budget

This is our experience at the Hide Away Country Inn, Bucyrus, Ohio

May 25th was a beautiful day for a wedding. It was 78, sunny and light breeze. It all looked perfect. Only my bridesmaids and the wedding planner at the Inn knew of the money nightmare and inappropriate business practices that started before my event and has continued even 12 days later. What I can say is that you need to make sure you plan your wedding with the food price quotes guaranteed and re-confirmed in writing 90 days before your event by the Inn Keeper. Also make sure to inspect your final bill closely, to make sure you are not double or triple charged for reception meals. And be aware that a scoop of ice cream on your pie will cost you $4 (making the total cost of a slice of pie w/one scoop ice cream $8/guest).

6 days before the wedding, I received this email from the Innkeeper (this exact, non-edited email):

Sorry to add this on.

In review of the contract, and quickly changing pricing, I would like to have you consider two options with the pies. The price of flour has doubled since this was quoted. Thus we have tried everything as not to have to pass on the price increase, but unfortunately we need to, to cover our costs. Thus the price per serving is now at 4.00 per person. vs. the 9 dollars per pie. As well as the price for cookies has doubled.

A couple of considerations, as I had previously mentioned:

1. serve smaller serving sizes on the pie.

2. increase the amount of cookies per person, * concerns for this is not everyone would get a piece of pie.

3. pay the higher prices, that we have no control over.

Please let me know your decision as soon as possible.

I was charged $36/doz. for cookies and the pies were $1.50/slice in our original agreement and then raised to $4/slice. What do you do when your wedding is in six days? We suggested canceling some other items off the list to cover this new, unexpected cost for the desserts but the Innkeeper then stated we could not negotiate any other changes, she stated " you can not change anything because it was in the contract already". She reneged on the contract at the last minute, with last minute drastic price increases, and essentially tied our hands. We had no other choice but to agree to the last minute increases. The Innkeeper treated us rudely and unprofessionally after this on several occasions, even though we begrudgingly agreed to her price gauging in an effort to move forward. I can tell you so much more...but this is the most important part.

We wish we had read the many complaints with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) before booking the Inn as our wedding venue. It seems this Innkeeper has bitten off more than she can chew in having wedding receptions there, perhaps she should just stick to having B&B guests only. She seemed tense, rude at times, and is obviously having trouble balancing her books, based on her billing practices. Our experiences with the Innkeeper placed a lot of stress on me and my husband the week before the wedding, and added a negative tone to our special weekend.

Other than the Inn Keeper...We were treated very well by the rest of the staff...Jackie & Krys...who did a wonderful job to make our wedding exactly how we envisioned it. If it wasn't for them, it would have been a very negative experience. They were very professional and made sure our guests did not see the tension between the staff and Inn Keeper. Jackie told us not to worry about anything.and that she would handle everything.just go and have fun! She did just that!

50 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Wow, this hotel is exquisite! They provide real comfort. They have thought of the little things. I was so impressed that I am taking information back to our company for a retreat.

They have huge suites, with an in-room spa service available. They had the highest speed internet I have experienced anywhere in my travels. Now I know why they have an award winning dining room! Especially in this quaint little town, it's very easy to find.

I am very likely to return to the Hideaway Bed and Breakfast.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
