The place itself is cute. But the bed is something like four feet off the floor - difficult for older folks, like ourselves, to get into. Yes there are steps left at the bottom of the bed but they are not simple to navigate if you are older. And...
Didn't stay but had dinner and it was not good

Mediocre
The atmosphere is very nice and they had an extensive wine list, but the service was TERRIBLE and the food wasn’t much better. The runner and the hostess were much friendlier than our waitress who barely spoke to us other than a half-hearted lobby...

Excellent
Charming, historic accomodations facing the site of the 1st day's battle. Rooms in the oldest section of the house have original wood floors that can be creaky, so light sleepers may want a room further back. Luxurious baths and fireplaces in all...
29 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
The Herr Tavern has been an annual trip for us for several years. We love going and catching up with the staff who are knowledgeable and charming. In fact, the Herrr Tavern is so special to us we are getting married and having our reception there in 2008. Honestly, we couldn't think of a better experience to share with each other and our families. The rooms are adorable! They all offer a different style and feel. They are all clean and well cared for. Sheets are ironed and very soft. The jacuzzi tubs are wonderful to relax in. Breakfast is different each morning-- Charles is an amazing chef! Breakfast is always an adventure worth having skipped dinner the night before to dive into. If you have dietary restrictions they will make sure you are accommodated- just let them know in advance. For dinner the Herr is great too, but expect to spend a bit of money. The Livery is a good place for a quick bite and a game of pool-- or pick up from and eat in your room in front your fireplace! Spending time at the Livery is a nice way to get a "local feel". This is a beer and wings kind of place. It shows the natural diversity of the inn-- you can have a 5 star romantic meal by candlelight or watch football and drink beer next door. It is the best of both worlds in one block of space. We look forward to starting our lives together at the Herr Tavern and visiting frequently as we continue the journey! You will not be disappointed!

I booked my stay here with my fiance because it was reasonably priced. We soon discovered much to our delight that it didn't mean they skimped on luxury. The room was massive with bold hardwood floors, a nice clawfoot tub and gas fireplace in the fireplace. Our stay was remarkable. We had dinner and played pool in the bar right next to it. Our night was uneventful but well rested. The breakfast was soooooo dreamy. Eggs any style with fresh country sausage and muffins. The service was stellar and the staff very friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat.
The Herr Tavern is only listed under hotels which is misleading. We went there for dinner and it was absolutely outstanding - what a surprise to find a gourmet restaurant of this caliber. Recommend highly.
We have eaten at the Herr Tavern about 4-6 times a year since we moved to the area in 2000. We have always had a good experience until 8/31/05. My wife and I had reservations and looked forward to a great evening (like usual). We were going to buy a ...
