We were having the advertised "slumber party" which was to include two adjoining rooms for one night, the indoor water park, and the party room and all of the party supplies, pizzas, cake and drinks. This was to cost $425 plus tax.
We were over charged $10.60 for drinks that were supposed to be part of the party, but believed them when we were told it would be taken care of. Instead of finding the credit on my account a couple of days later, I was shocked to find my account with a account balance of -$440!
After calling my bank Hearthstone Inn & Suites had charged my account not only the amount I owed (no problem) but had four additional holdings on my account in the amounts of $192.60, $46.46, and two holdings of $185.15. This caused my account to also be charged several overdraft fees.
After calling Hearthstone every day for a week, several times a day (never getting a phone call in return) I was finally told that they did no such thing and that I was a liar, and that had I been smart enough to add the amounts together than I would see I was only charged what I owed. They refused to do anything, It took my bank calling them to get them to admit their mistake. My lovely bank also informed them that they have violated the laws and guidelines involved with using Visa.
My bank went ahead (seeing this wasn't my doing) and credited all of my money back to me including the overdraft charges.
I still have not received the overcharge of $10.60 back to my account as of today. I still have not received a phone call or any other form of communication from the Hearthstone, let alone an apology for the actions and lack of attention that they have given this. This kept my account tied up for one solid business week and it is just unacceptable.
I have contacted the BBB, local TV news Troubleshooter, made a report on other internet sites, and well as here, and have told everyone I know. I strongly suggest you avoid this hotel at all costs, or it may cost you more than you know! Drive up I65 another 2 hours and go to the big one in Indy. They have a much better indoor water park, it’s much nicer, cleaner, and they will treat you right!
About the hotel itself, as stated above, we paid for adjoining rooms and they were not adjoining. One of the rooms had left over moldy food on the floor, a dirty and water filled ice bucket, and clothing from the last guest. The chlorine in the pool made your eyes burn even if you never went in the water, and they have very poor ventilation in the waterpark area. The free breakfast they bragged about was nothing other than toast, bagels, a Danish and cereal. No low carb diets allowed here!
