Hawthorn Hotel and Suites Hotel - Page 1

After a long day at Busch Gardens, we arrived at the Hawthorn well into the evening hours. We were a little skeptical when we arrived since we had two children with us and the entrance was minimal along a side street. Much to our surprise, when we entered it was gorgeous! It seemed that you stepped back in time to the 40's. The hotel lobby was clean. The staff was fantastic. The elevators were small and very cool according to my 8 year old. When we entered our room we were even more shocked! It was gorgeous! Everything was sparkling clean and there were no unpleasant odors. The bathrooms were all marble and just like new. We also had a small kitchenette in the room with a microwave and refrig.

In the morning we were directed to the restaurant next door for our breakfast which was eggs, waffle, bacon, sausage... You name it... After breakfast we spent the day strolling the streets and the nearby river. We even took the $1.00 paddle ferry over to Norfolk and walked the mall and visited the naval shipyard.

What a great stay! Well worth the price!

I booked this hotel after some very helpful email communication with the hotel staff. They were pleasant, professional, and very courteous. The hotel, which is in Olde Towne Portsmouth, was definitely worth the price. The city is working hard on revitalizing the area and this hotel is right in the middle of all the excitement. We ate at a great German restaurant just across the street and caught a movie at a 60 year old theatre (with very reasonable prices) just steps away from the hotel. The waterfront is a short few blocks walk from the hotel. I was impressed with the quality of the room and the facilities. The exercise room was more than adequate and a guest laundry was also a nice surprise. The *included* breakfast was a FULL meal, not just donuts and coffee. All in all, I was very impressed with the hotel.
