Located at the entrance to state street. The historical gateway to the city of Boston which starts at Boston Harbor then runs past the landmark Customs House and leads to the Old State House. The Harborside Inn offers a unique lodging experience. Located in the heart of the city's waterfront and financial district and just steps from historic Faneuil Hall the shopping restaurants and pubs of Quincy Market and the view, salty air and sailing ships of Boston Harbor. For business or pleasure there is no better location. The building housing Harborside Inn was designed as a mercantile structure by Gridley James Fox Bryant - a famous 19th century architect and builder whose projects included Boston's old City Hall. Renovated as a hotel in 1997, features of the original construction were preserved and highlighted as a reminder of its historic past. These historic details are combined with comfortable furnishings such as authentic oriental rugs and sleigh beds in every room. Hardwood floors and exposed brick walls enhance authenticity and reproductions of historic maps and prints and adorn the halls.

The hotel's good location is what drew us, but we really disliked the room (which we tried, unsuccessfully, to change)overlooking the Atrium : it had venetian blinds which let light in; it should have had drapes. We felt a lack of privacy. We could not open the window and the air conditioning was not very strong.
Workmen arrived by 7:30 or 8 and woke us up every morning. There were piles of dirt in the entrance way; the elevators were dusty and dirty. The lack of valet service, driving 3 blocks to get to the parking lot in Boston traffic and one way streets was not fun. All together, we could have gotten a nicer room at the nearby Marriott Express for about the same price.

Okay
Cute historic hotel in a great location! However, service was poor, due to rude front desk staff who didn't even apologize when we reported a cockroach in our room.
pros: LocationI am planning a trip back and looking into hotels and to see the Harborside Inn on top of any list is shocking. But then I realized that that was why I stayed there in August. So I want point out a few of the reasons why the hotel was...

The room was great with wood floors and exposed brick walls. The architect did a fantastic renovation. The bed was small. You can walk everywhere. The front desk was basic but what do you expect when paying $150 less than adjacent...
pros: proximity to attractiStayed here twice. Last time on 11/19/05. The room faced the side street with a bar next door that exuded a noise level beyond any city noise I have ever heard. We did not fall asleep until almost 3am. It sounded like...

We stayed at Harborside Inn last April for the Boston Marathon...The hotel is right near Faneuil Hall, Quincy Marketplace, the Aquarium, and a short walk to the North End, which is our favorite place to visit in Boston! The rooms are not fancy, but ...
