Here is a breakdown of the experience my wife and I had during our visit to your hotel last week. We are frequent visitors to the Bar Harbor area and will be seeking different accommodations during our next visit.
Check In: As we were on our Honeymoon we were told we received an upgrade to a room without an obstructed view. However, when we arrived in our room the only view we had we of the Whale watch boat which blocked what would otherwise be a pleasant view of the harbor. The complimentary bottle of champagne was wonderful and very much appreciated.
First Night: After getting the flies out of the room (approximately 6) we both enjoyed a wonderful night’s sleep on a very comfortable bed.
Day 1: We ordered room service for breakfast and it arrived warm and on time. We both agreed that it was one of the better breakfasts that we ever had. When we arrived that evening we noticed that our wine glasses, cheese knife and white ceramic bowel were missing that were in the gift basket received from our families. I phoned guest services and the informed me that they would look for the items. After 15 minutes the front desk called to inform me that they were checking with the kitchen staff to see if they had the items. Approximately 30 minutes later I had to go to the front desk to obtain replacement wine glasses, cheese knife and bowl so my wife and I could enjoy a glass of wine and snacks that were given as a gift.
Day 2: As we were heading out for the day I noticed that the housekeeping staff had not replaced the door sign to request a timeframe for housekeeping services. I was able to cross out the previous day’s time and enter the new information. That afternoon we sat by the pool and were continuously interrupted by a group of very loud and unruly children. After arriving back at our room I noticed that housekeeping also failed to leave a menu to order breakfast. This caused us to go elsewhere for breakfast the following morning.
Day 3: After enjoying a wonderful hike to the top of Gorham Mountain we returned to our room to shower. Housekeeping failed to read the sign which had to be crossed out for the third time as we were not left a clean sign to request a time slot. I attempted to ask the employee to come back in approximately 1 hour as we were not ready. He then asked me if I spoke Spanish as he did not speak English and could not understand me. When we returned from a walk through town to freshen up before dinner we realized that our room had not been cleaned. I phoned guest services to ask for someone to come and tend to our room.
Day 4: We left early that day as we decide to visit Stowe Vermont for the remainder of our Honeymoon. During checkout the front desk staff never thought to ask if we enjoyed our stay.
Overall my wife and I are extremely disappointed with the service we received during our stay at the Harborside Hotel. For the amount of money charged for our stay we feel the poor service is completely unacceptable. My wife and I chose not to make a fuss about these problems during our stay as we were on our honeymoon and felt that as a result of the way the missing glasses and dishes were handled that it would not have been worth the effort.
After driving most of the day we were extremely tired and decided to inquire on prices. The minute I walked in the lobby I knew it was going to be a very pricey establishment and we probably would be looking further for a place to stay. I WAS...

I am usually a very picky person when it comes to hotels, I scrutinize the ceilings for water leaks, the carpets for cigarette burns, the beds for comfort and cleanliness. I have to admit at least from what I saw of the Harborside Hotel everything was spotless. I could find little if anything to complain about. We had a harborside room that looked out over the Whale watching and sailboats and Stewman's Restuarant where we had our lobster dinner and watched the boats come and go. We were just a few feet from the heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi that was very well maintained. They had free Internet access, you only needed to call the front desk for a password and even had a beautiful computer area with two computers in case you didn't bring your own laptop. Everyone we came in contact with from checkin to the restuarant was extremely friendly and helpful. I was very impressed when walking around the hotel how clean and immaculate every area of the hotel seemed to be, whether inside or out. I can always find the areas a hotel seems to let go like dirty elevator floors or stained carpets in the hallways, etc., but I have to admit I didn't find one thing wrong with this hotel. I wasn't in every room but given the overall attention to detail throughout the common areas, I can safely assume that every room was as clean and well maintained as ours was. There is a huge fireplace in the main lobby and it was full every night of our three night stay with people sitting around and talking over the days events and just plain relaxing, it was nice to see even though we never got there early enough to enjoy sitting by the fire ourselves. One of the pluses to staying at this hotel was the fact that you could easily park your car and walk to all the downtown stores and restuarants and was only a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Greens where you could catch a tour bus to places like Sand Beach or the Black Forest or to the top of Cadillac Mountain. If all the smiling faces at this hotel was any indication I don't think our experiences was unique, I truely believe that this was one of the better hotels we have stayed in. We received excellent value for the money and have already made plans to return again next year.

Horrible
Upon arrival, we were told that our RESERVED room with oceanfront view had been given to someone else (a stay-over). I find this very upsetting considering that my husband and I were on our honeymoon and had made reservations 2 months in advance. ...
We loved the location of Harborside. The fact that we were able to park the car and not return to it was fantastic. We could walk everywhere. The views were great.
The only negative would be that we had a first floor room above the...

What can I say - after all the hype I expected more. I wouldn't say this is a family friendly hotel - consierge (oaky, I know I spelled it wrong) gave us bad information.

How nice it was to go to New England and stay at this wonderful hotel. My wife and kids had a great time in the heated pool that overlooked the Bar Harbor Bay. We highly recommend this location and will come back soon.
