Never in a million years – Posted Sep 02, 2009

Horrible
female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

What a con job. Of course, their website only shows good reviews. This hotel was dirty, full of bugs, rude and uncaring employees and the food was awful. The sad part is this could be a great hotel if they just demanded more quality and upkeep from the staff. From everything I have read, the owners and management won't ever follow the morally high ground. Must just be out for the quick buck and repeat business not important. Beware!!!

STAY AWAY!!! – Posted Jul 22, 2009

This was the WORST hotel ever in Mackinaw...we go every 2 years & have stayed at most of the beachfront hotels & some of the older ones in the city, so we have alot of experience in this city. The staff was exteremely rude, the room was clean at first, but never vacuumed the entire week, we had to ask for clean sheets that fit the beds, the pool was over-clorinated & the beach/pool showers were not hooked-up to water. Cannot figure out AAA's 3 star rating??? Not even close to one-star.

I would advise everyone to stay far away from this place.

the owners we talked to are rude and so is their staff.

After reading the reviews on many other sites I have come to the conclusion our incident was not isolated.

They charged us for a roo

Mackinaw Doesn't Want Our Business – Posted Jun 30, 2008

Horrible
48 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

Bait and switch is how I would describe our hotel cost. Two couples in our extended family called the same day for different rooms and were quoted a price by the same woman. She would not give a confirmation number because "we wouldn't need it." They each wrote down the quote and brought it with them. Upon arrival the cost was raised $70. The staff was rude with the exception of the woman that cleaned our room. They also tell you your room key, (which never worked) will get you a discount of $3 off at the ferry. The ferry workers were very upset that they were still telling this to people. Without AAA we would not have gotten our discount. Again, when advising the front desk about this we were met with hostility and rudeness. From the front desk person to the woman setting breakfast foods out no one smiled, no one made eye contact unless they were angry with your questions. We also were told there was a 72 hour cancellation policy and could not get out of our reservation. The customer service in Mackinaw City was very poor and shocking considering our economy is so bad. You would think they would care if people returned. Most do not. We were told that one person owned the majority of the businesses along the beach where this hotel is. If so perhaps he should send secret shoppers to get an idea of how miserable his employees seem to be. At the hospital I work at one thing we try to do for each guest is "create joy!" This maxium needs to be adopted. Thank you.

Excellent
32 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed at the Hamilton Inn for our family reunion, and it was very nice. The staff was attentive and was able to help me pull the reunion off without a hitch. The rooms were clean, and every person in the party enjoyed it very much. It helped that the most expensive room was only $88.00. We are going to make it an annual event.

My husband and I reserved a room and when we got there they had rented the room out to someone else without a reservation. They couldn't provide us with a king size bed or tell us that it took ~20-30 minutes for the room to heat up. Instead they told us to go across the street to a competitor. They also told a smoker in our party to just go ahead and smoke in the rooms even though they are advertised as non-smoking. Spend your dollars in a place that cares about customer satisfaction.

Good
55 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

We are a family of five and stayed at the Hamilton Inn Select Beachfront in August, 2007. Our room had two queen-sized beds and one roll-away. Everything was very, very nice! Neat and clean throughout. Furnishings and appointments were excellent. The armoire in our room was spacious enough for our clothing as well as storage for the ironing board and iron. All of the attractions, all three of the Mackinaw Island ferries, the bars, the restaurants, and the shopping mall were conveniently within walking distance from the hotel. Ours was a very positive experience. (Note:

Regardless of where you choose to stay in Mackinaw City, make sure you tour the de-commissioned U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker on display... it is awesome!!!)

Excellent
41 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for business

I travel to Detroit on business about three times a year. I like to go to Mackinaw City whenever I can to mix a little business with pleasure. I expect a good breakfast and a clean room.

The Hamilton Inn gave me the clean room I expected, as well as the hot breakfast I did not. I had wireless internet throughout the hotel and a hot tub in my room for only $5 more. I will return.

We stayed at the Hamilton for our honeymoon. It was very nice. Everything was spotless, and the staff was very caring. We really enjoyed it. We walked to every attraction in town, and we enjoyed the beach.
