Beginning in 1923, and for more than 20 years, the main building of this 16th century Hacienda was the headquarters of the Carnegie Institution Maya Archaeological Expedition. Garden cottages were built for the carnegie staff and many fruit and flowering trees were planted in the garden. The cottages have been rebuilt and modernized without destroying their rustic charm.
