I'll be blunt on why I think this place is horrible. Its a resort - a indoor /outdoor waterpark. A little over crowded, under staffed and designed to drain you of your last buck. I hate places like that and I'll never go back to places like that. The furnishings are chintzy and the decor is a plastic - an extremely high 'cheese' factor.
First of all, the value you receive in not good. For $300 a night you should get mints on the pillow, 24 concierge, etc. Granted this place caters to familes with small children, but between the plethora of tattoos and tramp stamps, I just assume go to the beach. At least I don't have to worry about some kid pissing or pooping in the pool.
Second, is the food. Very expensive (we're talking Disney prices) and it was some of the worst food I ever ate. Here's a tip, don't order the hamburger, I don't think its beef. And the dinner floor show was literally a small rodent scurrying across the dining room floor. Not a good feeling there.
The kids had fun, but I was worried about the 2 year old running off and getting lost in the crowd. I did see one mom freak out when her kid got on an elevator with out her to floors unknown. It was part of the chaos of the place. I sure hope she caught up with him on the next floor. ( btw - the place only has four elevators - its twice as many to handle to volume of people - much of our time was wasted waiting for elevators)
The older kids run about unsupervised doing the "Quest" which is Harry Potterish inspired game where kids point thier magic wands at animated objects for points. $25 bucks a pop for that one.
The downtown section of Grapevine was nice and that was where we had our best meal in a little mom & pop seafood resturant. Not too bad and ok on the wallet.
Gaylord Texas is across the road- we stayed there 2 - 3 years ago and overall a much better hotel - 5 star acommodations and resturants. Not very kid oriented, but there are many close by attactions if you don't mind doing day trips.
You go to places like this for the kids, but its less than relaxing. Save your money and go to a place like Hawaii or Florida or just stay home and play in the hose.
