with a budget, traveling for leisure

The Alexander hotel is a great place to stay if your on budget I stayed here with my boyfriend for 3 nights and was very pleased with this hotel . Its only 2 blocks from a subway stop and there are nice places to have breakfast right up the street. The rooms are clean but a little small and maid serivces comes every morning. I shared a bathroom with a whole floor and had a little troubel getting a shower sometimes but would go to a different floor if the one on my floor was taken. The elevator was the size of a broom closet only 4 people can fit. This place isnt the Ritz Carlton but a nice place to go stay. I would go back and stay here again.

with a budget, traveling for business

This hotel is looks more like an apartment building from the outside so it may be a little difficult to find, there is free wireless in the common areas & an internet hookup in the rooms for a fee. Overall very clean with an at-home feel.

I find it very telling that no matter what the complaint, the manager explains how it is the customer's fault. This should indicate to you the quality of service to expect if you stay at the hotel. I booked and paid for my reservation months in advance, saving printouts of rates and polices. I took these with me to the hostel. When I arrived, i was told I had reserved a shared room rather than a pvt room. I showed my reservations and the front desk insisted I had misunderstood the website. I used the internet in the lobby to show them website confirming the rate I paid was a pvt room. They said I would have to speak to a manager and reminded me that they had a 24 hour cancellation policy. I showed them their online printed policy - from their website I used and that stated what i booked. They said the website- is wrong.

My bed has vermin of some sort in it.

I arrived at the desk at 9:30 when I had been told the manager would arrive. He was not there. I called again, to let them know what was going on, hotels.com called the hotel, and they were told the manager would arrive at 10:00. I returned at 10 and the manager was still not there. I had already requested a refund and been denied - and had canceled the reservation. I left and called back at 10:30, with hotels.com ready to conference in. Still no manager.staff at front desk are horrible, the only good thing i can say is the location do not expect service at this place stay away.

31 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

That's a place where you should never stay. I booked the room when I was still in Dallas and it seems perfect. There was Private bathroom, internet access in the room, phone line, it seems perfect and with a good price for New York.

That's not the truth. The main problem is that the hotel employees spent all the time lying to me. First they tried to put me in a room without private bathroom. I refused and one room with private bathroom just appeared when I asked for the cancelation of the charge in the credit card.

The next problem was internet access. First they said they was without laptop cable for internet (all the cables was in use), when I realized that the room hasn't a cable internet point, they said to me that I could get wireless in the room, that it was open. Wrong again, so they said they would open the wireless especially for me (there is no sense in this), but just in the last day the truth appeared: they haven't a room with private bath and internet access, I should use internet at the lounge. I event tried to be a good guy and asked them for a cable to use at the lounge, because I needed to use internet with my notebook, but they haven't any.

The payment was another problem. They swear to me that when I used the credit card at the first day was just a pre-approval process and they need to use the credit card again to charge the value of the room. Sure: They just want I give them my card to double charge me for the room, very nice.

When the police arrived, they changed the history: now they need the card to charge an extra-tax, one more invented by them.

This could be a nice place if there was even one honest employee in this hotel.

36 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I booked this hotel middle of Nov. It was cold when we got there, and heater of the room I was given was not working, and the bed had no blanket.

The receptionist was so rude, and didn't change our room nor gave a blanket. ( I demanded him to give us blankets, and he gave us only one thin blanket. I demanded again, and he finally gave us another thin blanket.)

We were not able to stay in the room without sweater and jacket on, and ended up with finding other hotel. The room of other hotel we moved in was of course, heater was working.
