Hello all, I read the reviews and listen to the whiners. One said I smell pot and just how do you know what pot smells like smarty? You party-pooper. Others complain theirs only access to the Internet in the lobby, boo woo. I had a great time for my ...

On The weekend of July 25 28, my wife and I stayed at The Grand Plaza Hotel in St. Pete Beach to celebrate a very special occasion. At Check in we were greeted by Robin (a very sweet young lady), who immediately made us feel at home. We were assigned to room number 800, a room with a partial ocean view. We went to the room and everything was beautiful, clean, a very nice view of the Ocean and the Bay. We went back to the front desk to see if we could see a room on the other side of the hotel. Robin was unavailable so we spoke with BJ who was most accommodating. We mentioned that it was a very special occasion and we wanted to be just right. He gave us a key to a room on the other side of the hotel so that we may view and decide which room we would prefer (he did say that in his opinion we had one of the best rooms in the house). After checking the room on the other side of the hotel, we realized that BJ was right; room number 800 had a much better view. Ten minutes after going to our room, someone knocked on the door; BJ had sent up a complimentary bottle of Champagne so that we may celebrate our very special occasion. Every time we passed by the front desk, Robin, BJ and other staff members would ask if everything was Ok and if there was anything they could do for us.
On the evening of the last day of our stay, we had dinner at Spinners. The attention by the restaurant staff was incredible, I brought with me a Music CD with a special song I wanted to play for my wife, I spoke with the Manager and he had no problem in interrupting his music program so that he can play the special song for my wife. The views from the spinning restaurant are incredible, the prices are not outrageous, and it is quite an experience; definitely worth it.
In summary: Days after I made my reservations, I came very close to cancelling because of negative reviews I read on the internet; Im glad I did not cancel. I dont know who these people are who posted the negative reviews, I dont even know if they stayed at the same hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, the bathrooms are adequate, nice private balcony, beautiful sunset views, and best of all, the service and attention from the staff is super. Our experience was Tops; we definitely will return and recommend to others.

I love this place, the staff are great, Lori and Micheal, thank you very much!!
I am disabled and have been coming to the Grand for the last 6 years, each year we are met as if we were family, everyone bends over backwards to help us.
We have always been made to feel as if we are special, ok I've had the wrong room once, because I'm disabled, but it was changed without any fuss at all.
The staff at the bar are great and I for one love them all.
Sallie Morley. PS Be back to see you all soon xxxxxx
I worked temporarily with Elizabeth Smith until we had to fire her 2 weeks before our wedding. This location is not cheap, yet we were treated like trash. The wedding coordinator lied, triple booked our site and continued to lie her way out of her lies. She tried to pin the bride against the mother in law with her lies, and she only got herself caught. When we tried to speak with her in her office, she immediately had a face of disdain and we could tell she'd been reprimanded for making empty promises. We never once raised our voices - we don't think that's how business gets handled.
Here are some quotes from Liz herself. Make up your own mind:
"Wait, let me go get someone in here before I'm ganged up on"
"Now that my boss is here, bring it on, start blasting me like you were before"
"Like I care about this job or wedding, I'm moving back to Dallas in 2 months"
"We had three weddings here last weekend and it was a total nightmare."
She even made up a lie about a bride threatening my life and my wedding. She's just a piece of work. The location - most of the rooms - isn't that bad and the price is right. I just wished they'd hire some sensible, professional people at the front desk and with special events. I will never recommend the Grand Plaza to anyone.

Think of budget motel and not the best one. It has some features of 3 star, but the balance is missing and it is more on motel side in my opinion. We were in #503; weird-shaped small room; better go with another one. Do not take anything on upper floor under penthouse/restorant: the weddings are going on almost every night and they are noisy. WiFi is ok but you have to ask for a password at front desk (book in the room says it is open; it is not). Just bring your laptop downstairs and they will fix it. Noisy AC in the room and no AC in hallways, just fans. Sewage smell downstairs; not every time, but often. Maid service was ok.
The beach is gorgeos; restorants nearby (Madfish and Crazy Bill) are good; this is the good part.

Room 819..(.and 919)Filthy! Website says completely renovated in 2006! Not true!!.Bugs in the bathroom, thick dust on light fixtures, weird drop down mirrored ceilings in bathrooms that "hover" when balcony doors open! And they are glass that almost fell crashing down on us! Lobby cluttered with painters, wallpaper strippers all week long. One elevator frequently out of service...long lines to get on remaining elevator. Waitresses slow...waited 20 mins for a box of cheerios with milk!!! Housekeeping forgetting to leave towels for two days...What's that about? Rooms not cleaned before 3 p.m.!Overall very disappointed with the service and expensive for what you are offered! Will not go back

We live locally & decided to rent a room for New Years Eve. Although they were having a party at Spinners that cost $100 per head, our goal was to have a sunset dinner & then spend the rest of the evening either in our room or on the beach. The restaurant was closed at sunset!!! We were charged $250 for a $108 room..AND were told it was an upgrade! Paul, who checked us in, engaged in a verbal confrontation with us upon arrival. We had phoned ahead for early check-in & were told that our room was ready; upon arrival we get an argument from some guy who insists our room is not ready and no one told us it was ready! We get to our room, which is in the corner of the building, and very odd shaped. It was so tiny, we were bumping into each other in the room!!! We went to Bahama Mama's, who boast to have great tropical frozen drinks; the drinks were absolutely horrible!! I have never had a worse pina colada. There was supposed to be live music outside; there wasn't. For the same cash, we could have stayed at one of the nicer resorts; it would have been worth it for the quality of the stay. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!

Very comfortable king size bed. Murphy bed good idea, more room to move about. The hotel has tile floors surely because of all the sand people track up to rooms. Great location, would recommend getting gulf view and pay extra for it. No hot tub was a bummer and pool was nice and warm 2 nights but too cold to swim one night. Bar right by the pool right on the beach is nice. The room doors slam shut very loudly so every time someone enters or leaves the room there is a loud slam and it wakes you up. Spinners restaurant is awesome view, food is OK not great. Overall hotel was fine, you should be out enjoying the beach and not stuck in your room anyway as this is a really beautiful location and view of the gulf.
The hotel was nice enough and the location was great, but it was our honeymoon and we felt like we totally got snubbed by the staff. We knew there were no guarentees about being upgraded or anything, but when you pay for an oceanview room, you...
