38 year old female with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

We live locally & decided to rent a room for New Years Eve. Although they were having a party at Spinners that cost $100 per head, our goal was to have a sunset dinner & then spend the rest of the evening either in our room or on the beach. The restaurant was closed at sunset!!! We were charged $250 for a $108 room..AND were told it was an upgrade! Paul, who checked us in, engaged in a verbal confrontation with us upon arrival. We had phoned ahead for early check-in & were told that our room was ready; upon arrival we get an argument from some guy who insists our room is not ready and no one told us it was ready! We get to our room, which is in the corner of the building, and very odd shaped. It was so tiny, we were bumping into each other in the room!!! We went to Bahama Mama's, who boast to have great tropical frozen drinks; the drinks were absolutely horrible!! I have never had a worse pina colada. There was supposed to be live music outside; there wasn't. For the same cash, we could have stayed at one of the nicer resorts; it would have been worth it for the quality of the stay. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!

Very comfortable king size bed. Murphy bed good idea, more room to move about. The hotel has tile floors surely because of all the sand people track up to rooms. Great location, would recommend getting gulf view and pay extra for it. No hot tub was a bummer and pool was nice and warm 2 nights but too cold to swim one night. Bar right by the pool right on the beach is nice. The room doors slam shut very loudly so every time someone enters or leaves the room there is a loud slam and it wakes you up. Spinners restaurant is awesome view, food is OK not great. Overall hotel was fine, you should be out enjoying the beach and not stuck in your room anyway as this is a really beautiful location and view of the gulf.

The hotel was good value. There was no hot water at most times. It had a good location on the beach.

This hotel made me feel relaxed: The hotel had a beautiful courtyard and a nice beach.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort Hotel.
I might recommend it to friends.

The accommodations were excellent, as were facilities and staff, especially Lori and the concierge, Micheal. Would definitely recommend it. Hoping to be with you again in 2008!

We stayed at the Grand Plaza back in June and have another trip planned next month. I got on here to read the reviews and can't believe what I see.

This hotel is wonderful. The rooms have been updated very nicely. We were very pleased and felt that we were staying in a top of the line hotel (for St. Pete Beach). We've stayed elsewhere and were not very happy. The rooms were very clean. The floors are ceramic tile so you don't get that musty smell that you normally get in a beach hotel.

The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The hotel does a lot of weddings on the weekend so that could be the reason the other reviews stated the hotel was noisy. We had 13 weddings the weekend we were there but the noise was not bad at all. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the fact that the pool is in the wrong spot. It stays in the shade until after 12:00 so it is cold. The pool needs to be in morning sun. They need to change the pool with Bahama Mama's. The food was excellent and you can't beat their room service. Inexpensive, very good and it was to our room within 10 minutes!

I highly recommend the Grand Plaza and can't wait till next month so I can be there again!

This was formerly a Holiday Inn. It is advertised to have been remodeled. I don't know where it could have been, it's all outdated. The rooms have no carpet, and it's noisy. The left only 2 washcloths for 3 people. I asked the maid for 3, she left none. I asked the supervisor for 3 washcloths, she gave me 2 and said she would return with another...she didn't. This place is overpriced, rundown, noisy and poorly managed. You would be wise to look elsewhere. P.S. the complimentary wireless internet service they advertise is only available in the lobby.

During the only night we stayed at the Grand Plaza, we had unbelievable noise outside our door all night (doors were hollow), pot smokers in the maid’s closet just outside the door, only 1 elevator worked, and the entire hotel smelled like rotten fish.

But the worst came after we left when we discovered from our credit card company that someone had stolen our credit card number and used it many times the day after we checked into the hotel. On one of the fraudulent charges, the crook was testing whether he could use the card for more charges and made the mistake of putting my home address in the on-line order. And of course, the only place the credit card was used where the vendor had my home address was the Grand Plaza Hotel. They make an imprint of your card to go along with the guest registration, unlike most modern hotels who swipe the card and their computers only reveal the last 4 digits to the front desk personnel.

I also believe that someone at the hotel is posting glowing comments about the hotel. When I read them, I get really angry. It is a bad hotel and has dishonest front desk staff and the general manager is into total denial.

Location is great.

Bed was very uncomfortable, and the pillows were almost non-existent.

There are only 2 elevators for the entire hotel.

Guests smoking in other rooms left our bathroom smelling of cigarette smoke

and the hotel responded by sending staff to spray air freshener.

Housekeeping service was poor, and our room was left opened by staff one day.

Bed linens were very poor quality(very rough and scratchy).

Rooms need upgrading.

Love the beach access, love the beach, hate the noise. You can stay at any of the hotels along the beach and get that. Grand Plaza comes with way too many glitches to make it worth the money.

It was literally like there were fraternity and sorority parties all over the hotel. People were screaming until 4 in the morning, throwing cans and beer bongs off the balconies. There were 12 weddings over the course of one weekend at this hotel. That's 12 wedding ceremonies on the beach and in the pool area, 12 receptions, and 12 weddings' worth of guests. It was nearly stupid. If you are planning on having any privacy during your stay, I would highly recommend asking how many weddings they have planned for the weekend.

FYI--the word on the street is that the food in the revolving restaurant is terrible. We ate at Madfish and it was amazing. Best part of the Grand Plaza is that you can walk to Madfish.

While the common areas of the hotel were slightly outdated, the rooms were recently upgraded and were beautiful and well furnished, with an extra large king size bed, a sofa, a microwave and a refrigerator. All the rooms have balconies and great views of the Ocean or the Bay. The location is right on the beautiful St. Pete Beach.

This hotel made me feel comfortable: The newly upgraded rooms made me feel comfortable.

I am very likely to return to the Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort Hotel.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

The hotel was a dump; they charge top dollar, but it is run down. Their internet page says it has been completely remodeled, however it looks all original to me.
