We have just returned home from a week staying at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco, this wonderful hotel is situated so you can easily walk, cable Car or tram to anywhere in the city.
We stayed for 6 nights and can not fault this hotel in any way at all ,from the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room was clean and they met our request of getting one that was quiet. We stayed on the 32nd floor and had access to the regency club and they went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed and if what you wanted was not there they would try and get it for you.
I give this wonderful hotel a 10/10 and would go back and stay anytime.
If this is your first visit to this beautiful city here are a few things I would recommend. When you arrive at San Francisco airport take the Bart into the city if you can as it is a much cheaper way of getting there,Buy yourself at least a 3 day muni card from the cable car turn around point at powell street, this gives you unlimited travel on most of the city transport links. If you are going to Alcatraz try and go as early as you can as it gets very busy later in the day and be warned that when you arrive on the Rock there is a steep climb to get to the prison.
This city is beautiful at anytime of day and at no point did I feel in danger,if you can take a walk through China town down toward pier 39 and Fisherman wharf.Although pier 39 is good be warned that the restraunts are a little over priced so maybe look around before you think about eating there,Fishermans wharf is wonderful if you like seafood and can get very busy around lunch and supper time.
All in all this is a beautiful city that I would go back to time and time again.
