Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

I give the hotel and grounds a 10+. I give the general hotel staff a 6 and the concierge a 1. We had three rooms in April 2008. Weather was great, hotel wasn't very busy, grounds were perfect, pool was spectacular. Great hotel for an adult trip or with kids (separate pool areas). The Poipu area is a great place, lots of small shops and good restaurants nearby (including one of the original Roy's). I definitely recommend ordering pizza one night from Brick Oven Pizza (about a 15 minute drive to pick up, they don't deliver).

This hotel isn't cheap and you would expect to get the best room, food and service. With the exception of the front desk and pool side snack shop, the service is where the hotel CONSISTENTLY was poor. Here's a list of things that stand out. One day our room wasn't made up, called housekeeping later in the day and they said they'd send someone right over - they never came. Most of the days we stayed, we didn't see any pool side service. My biggest gripe was the concierge - fist night we arrive we called the concierge and asked about restaurants and settled on The Beach House. We said we could go any of the next 7 nights, but needed an earlier reservation of 6:30 or earlier because of the kids. We received a call back a few minutes later from the concierge letting us know the best they could do was 7:45 the next day. It sounded fishy, so we immediately called the restaurant directly and was able to get 6:15 the next day. They said they were wide open. Another experience was asking if they had a menu for Tropical Burgers (a restraint in the local shopping center). They responded with an attitude "you don't want to go there", and the conversation actually got confrontational. There were several other instances of similar nature where we felt talked down to by young punks. The service there really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I loved all the pools and water activities but I especially loved the lagoon. Also, the lunch at yum cha was the best meal of the whole trip. The rooms were nice and well cared for. The vendors in the lobby had some very nice items for sale and made it very easy since they came to us. I would go back!!

The Hyatt Kauai is located right on the beach. The rooms are only decent size, but the food, ambiance, service, and amenities are out of this world. The Hyatt Kauai is located near a great golf course, has a pool that is out of this world, and has snorkeling only minutes away. The service is impeccable, as they offer many romantic options if you are looking to impress.

Beautiful setting...pool area was fabulous...nicely landscaped - several pool areas meant no one spot got overly crowded. Plenty of cabanas. Honeymooners and families sat side by side without bothering each other. Tidepools restaurant was great. Could've skipped the luau.

Only con: group of loud and surly conventioners came in our last day and disturbed the peace.

The room was very comfortable and nice. The lagoon pool was perfect. The tennis facility was very poor. They had old, not recently strung lender rackets and old flat balls. The tennis facility was embarrassingly bad.
