We had a great stay at the Grand Gateway Hotel. when we checked in we were greeted with warming smiles. The front desk worker Scott got us checked in to our room and was very friendly. the other worker Corrina was also very nice and friendly. they both gave us excellent directions and places to eat. We loved the pool and for the fact that they had a coffee shop in the pool area. Perkins that was just down the hall wasnt great but it was good and nice that they did room service. the night crew seemed to be a little grumpy and not willing to help when we would ask them questions so we just stuck with asking the morning staff. The lobby is very beautiful and the rooms are very nice. I loved the pillows. I even bought one from the front desk when i checked out! I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is staying in Rapid City or anywhere in the Black Hills area.

I paid for a 4-night stay thru Orbitz. When we arrived, I had to present my credit card for "incidentals". In truth, we were charged another $567.52 for our stay, on top of the $699.08 I already paid through Orbitz. When I discovered this on 08/13/2008, and talked to the service rep at check-in, I was told the "Manager" was already sending through the credit. This it seems, was a lie, as what happened was the charging of an additional $122.94 to my Visa on 08/14/2008!! I called the hotel and was told a manager was not available. Orbitz called as well, and seemed to fare no better. So, my $690.00 trip has now run up to almost $1400.00. Watch you wallet with this place!!!!!

We requested early check in, and arrived at 11am after a six hour drive from Colorado. We were deflated when they told us our room wouldn't be ready until normal check-in at 2pm, and we would simply have to wait until then. The problem was we were travelling with our cat, and were forced to wait in their parking lot for 3 hours with the car turned on because it was 95 degrees outside. Only when we came in at 2pm to get our room, they told us housekeeping hadn't cleaned it yet. What were they doing for the past three hours?! It wouldn't be ready until 2:30 now. Now we sat in the lobby to wait (let them pay for the air conditioning). One confusing thing was our room was on the first floor, and an assistant manager said they cleaned from the bottom up and the top down with two cleaning crews...why wasn't our room ready? We didn't get checked in until after 3. Multiple requests to speak to the manager resulted in "He's not here, we don't know where he is, and we don't know when he'll be back." This was on a Friday afternoon during normal business hours...where was the manager? They would do nothing to accommodate us, and we will never stay there again. We recommend you don't as well. We decided not to pursue this with management so we wouldn't have to relive this horrible day and ruin the rest of our trip, but felt they should have given us a free night or something. But nope, they were glad to take our money and provide horrible service.
While waiting, we also heard a woman complain to staff that someone from the hotel came into her room and removed everything while they were gone because another party had requested a block of adjoining rooms. If it was me, I would have had uniformed police officers in the lobby in minutes.

We had reserved a deluxe room and found it to be very small and dark. We had our pet with us and we were on the fourth floor. It was very inconvenient with a pet. I would not stay here again. When we tried to leave early they would not reimburse us for our time not used. We later stayed at a different hotel that was much less expensive, very large and even with a jacuzzi and more amenities than I could ask for.

The Grand Gateway was very nice, great art throught out the Hotel. WE bought 2 of their pillows, and ordered 2 framed pictures that will be shipped to our home. The staff was so friendly, Joni was a real sweetie. Breakfast was great and complimentary which is unuasual for a full service hotel, Large selection of healthy cereal and tropical fruit, served pool side with a pretty view of the hills. We really enjoyed our stay and the employees were great.

Dog and pony show. Bait and switch. Front desk humuliates you public.
As you read this, please note that I was extremely polite with my questions and conversations. I am a professional man and travel for business and have never had such a bad experience. In all my dealings, I make it a point to be polite, but firm.
1) reserved a suit over the phone
2) called the day of arrival to confirm if the suit has a couch that can turn into a bed. Front desk says couch doesn't have a bed in it. Asked for a rollaway. Front desk agrees
3) Arrived went to room, it is a double queen.
4) Went to front desk to straighten out and was dealt with by a very rude employee. We don't have suites and obvously we, the customer is wrong, she says.
6) I asked about the rolloway and she laughed at me saying the a rollaway can't fit in our small room.
7) We said we called and talked to her and she said she remembered.
8) A male employee walked by, and said something about moving things around and the rollaway will fit. (i.e. he was back peddling)
9) Looking over our notes. We notice that we are paying a rate higher than a deluxe room and asked why. Response from her... rolling eyes.
10) Decided that it fruitless dealing with such a person and asked that the rolloway be free as a compromise. She agrees.
11) Checked out a couple days later and the rolloway charge was there. Asked it to be removed. Front desk person removed it.
12) I noticed a 'safe fee' on the bill and politely asked it to be removed. Since we were mislead about the room (I might go as far as 'lied to'), this is not an unreasonable request.
13) Front desk employee responded loudly "I suppose you don't want to pay tax also (or words to that affect)"
14) She then loudly responds,"it's not worth my time arguing over a couple of bucks (or words to that affect)"
15) At this point I was humiliated.
16) I then asked politely about some legal words just above the signature line on the bill.
17) Employee sighs and says she will get the manager.
18) Manager explains that the wording means that if they find damage, we could be billed later.
19) He answered a simple question with a simple answer - good.
20) I started to explain what a bad experience I had but decided that the relationship is unsalvagable and is not worth my time.
