I called ahead, everything had to be clean and perfect, I was taking my brother and his wife, both have Cancer. Asked for poolside or lakeside., was told they would be able to accommodate me. I checked in after 4pm the given check in time, but was told no rooms face the pool or lakeside the room we got faced other condos and trees. I was little upset that they told me on the phone they could accommodate me, instead of telling me that no rooms faced the pool or lake. But I understood. (Until I went down to the pool and seen all the poolside and lake front rooms.)
When we got to our room it was on the second floor (there are 3 floors) so that was not even considered when assigning rooms again I was disappointed. My family and I stayed at Cypress Point Sunterra Resort and this room was nothing compared to it. I wanted to cry. Everyone said it was OK, only not wanting to upset me further. I worked on this vacation for months. The room was old and worn, in bad need of repair. The kitchen cabinets were scratched and marked up. Rust in sink and fridge. Walls marked and dirty. Dirt around walls. I wanted to leave and felt like crawling in a corner for shame. I bragged Cypress Pointe and other Condos that we stayed in and this was so embarrassing. My brother's room had what looked to be urine stains on wall. WE ran the sweeper to clean the carpet! Everyone was so tired as we drove 16 hours we stayed only out of exhaustion, and no one openly, as I found out later, wanted to hurt my feelings. There is only 1 ironing board and iron you have to drag it from room to room. The screened in porch was dirty the screen it had holes in it so bugs came in. No cookie sheet, no pizza pan, no baking dish. Every time we used the toaster the fire alarm went off. No extra blankets or linens. That evening I went down to the lake and what they call a Beach. The beach is like lying in a mud pit on the side of a fishing lake except it is dirt and bug-encrusted sand. (Which is what it is, not at real Beach) The sand littered with rotting leaves and garbage. The hammocks not better. The decks and gazebos needs a good coat of paint, as does entrances and pool area. (Which is small).Paddle boats filthy and just thrown around. Pool area no cleaner. If I owned at this location I would be questioning where all the maintenance money was going to. A small amount of money would go along way on appearances here. PAINT! Some additional cleaning personnel. We rented 2 poles one was so broken we could not even use it; we had to take the hooks from it to use on the so-called good one. The lines were so tangles we spent at least 30 minutes untangling them. The poles had no sinkers. They had no other poles. We ended up going to Wal-Mart and buying our own hooks and lines and sinkers. no one was concerned. We repaired the pole we had, and turned it back in repaired, this way at least the next person would not have to disappoint their child. The store sold mostly items that should have been replaced free of charge. Dish detergent, tissue paper. Soap powder. nightly activities consisted of an outdated kids movie. The second day our van was broken into. The manager was nice but it was "sorry about your bad luck, we are not responsible".I saw they had listed that they could help with handicap so I asked at the desk if we could rent a wheelchair there. She said no but gave me a number to call that we could rent from that would deliver the chair. I called and called the number finally I left a message I made one last call in the morning only to have this man scream at me that I better tell the front desk to quit giving out his number. I called the front desk and they were so rude I asked to use one of their chairs, but no they could not do that. Even after having our van broken into and their employee giving out the wrong number. All they gave me was another number to call. That number just gave me a fast busy. At check out they tried to charge me almost $4.00 extra for all of these LOCAL calls! I was livid! $4.00 is nothing, but the audacity to charge me for calls that were their mistake.
By the way no free Internet connection. If you want Internet you go down to the lobby and sit. This really shocks me as even the crappy roadside hotels have free Internet.
The worst insult was when we stayed at a Best Western hotel on the way home, which I'd like to add was perfect, I overheard my sister-in-law telling the front desk manager want a nightmare they had just come from. She told him how filthy it was and about the urine stains and told him she cried every night my brother had to stay in that place just not to hurt my feelings. I held back my tears. I am home now and sick to my stomach thinking how much I wanted this to be perfect and how my heart aches that it was just the opposite for them. I would never recommend this resort. Just the thought of it makes me sick. If you don't mind a run downed Resort, with rude employees and a fishing hole for a beach be their guest!
