If you're going to Monument Valley, this is THE place you want to stay. There are several other hotels in Kayenta, but that is 25 miles away. This hotel is right there in the valley with views of the "monuments" from Every room in the hotel. It's built into the side of a cliff and is something to look at all by itself. Important to note is that there is No Alcohol served or sold here. Nearest is 60+ miles away in Mexican Hat, UT. If you'd like to have a drink, be sure to bring your own. It's ok with the management. Spectacular views abound. Refrigerator in room. Restaurant is not exotic, but the food is very good. There is a full grocery store within walking distance. Exceptional value for what you're actually getting!
I am very likely
to return to the Gouldings Lodge.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

The value for your money here is unbeatable. For $225 (winter special), we received two nights lodging (with a great view), 2 all day tours of mystery valley and monument valley including lunch. We were in the area the end of March 2008 and had wonderful weather. The best part of the tour is the mystery valley part. The native american guides take you to areas of the park that are on private property and are accessible only with a permit and a guide.

We stayed at Gouldings in September of 2005 as part of a Globus Adventures Tour. Our view of the monuments from our bedroom window was spectacular! The food at the restaurant was excellent. But the best was the quiet of the desert. At night you could hear the desert cool down and enjoy the silence from all the traffic and road noise of the day. The rooms were well maintained, especially when you consider the age of the hotel. This is not a glitzy place, but one of peace and the feeling of reconnecting with the past.
