Glen Ferris Inn

We love your place. My family and I had an event several months ago at the Inn. The food was great and service was excellent. What a staff! We travel a lot and found our treatment at the Inn better than any place we have ever stayed at. The owner, Becky, was great to work with. She walked us through every step making sure that our event would be great - and great it was. There were over 100 attending the event and everyone was well pleased with everything. When we were getting organized Becky walked us through everything - making suggestions to our already food list - which turned out to be even better than we could have ever imagined. We would like to thank the staff and Becky for making us feel as if we were part of the Inn family. We will be back and we could only suggest if anyone was planning an event for their family that they look first to the Glen Ferris Inn. Becky we will be calling you again to make plans for the next party. Keep up the great work.

NO AMENITIES IN THE ROOM, SUCH AS COFFE POTS OR HAIR DRYERS.

HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONER IN THE WINDOW WAS NOISEY AND OLD.

THE PRICE FOR THE ROOM OKAY FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

THEY SHOULD HAVE CLEANED THE WALKWAYS OF ALL THE SNOW. AND MADE IT SAFE FOR WALKING INTO AND OUT OF THE INN.

NEEDS A LOT OF WORK

My fiance' and I picked the Glen Ferris Inn to have our wedding and reception. We met with the owner Becky Hill over 1 month ago and she was in agreement to have the wedding and the reception there. We went over all the details of the wedding and picked the food out for the reception. We were also prepared to put down the deposit required but she stated to wait until we received the contract. In addition, we booked the 3 suites and 2 double rooms. Other rooms were to be booked closer to the wedding. She stated to us that she will send the contract within that week. 4 weeks had passed and a handful of phone calls were made to both the Inn and her home number. The first 2 weeks were excuses as to why she could not get the contract out and she would mail it the following day or two. The next week she totally avoided our phone calls. We finally had to resort to having the wedding at a different location. In my opinion if you plan on having an event or a business meeting at the Glen Ferris Inn you may have to look elsewhere.

As one lady says, mildew, dirty, no where near "charming". But, another had no problem and loved it. Having stayed there (now) three times, I have experienced it at both ends of the scale. They are struggling. Qualified help seems to be hard to find. The restaurant is marginal at best. A good waitress is handicapped by a lackadaisical (did I spell that right?) kitchen. One time you get a room and it's wonderful. Another time and your -- like-- YUCK. It is sometimes only saved by the building and grounds themselves. Refusing to die at the hands of non caring personnel.

I have made a habit of stopping there on my motorcycle trips from Dayton to Norfolk to visit my son and grandson. Generally leaving on a Friday after work, I arrive there just before the sun goes down and the deer come out. The Midland Trail is a much more enjoyable alternative to the 80MPH drone on I 64.

I hope this place makes it. If not with the current owners, then at some point when someone with the love AND ability to care for it and it's guest, comes along.

It is a historical and somewhat mystical place. Just don't set your standards too high and you might be surprised.

I didn't complain about the mildew on the blinds and in the tub, or the fruitflies in our room, or the hair on the bathroom floor from a previous guest, or the toilet that was tough to flush, or the lamp that didn't work, or the contrary deadbolt, or the dirty floors, or the houseflies and fruitflies in the dining room, or the worst $54 meal I've ever had. But I finally did complain when we were awakened at 7AM on our last day by people throwing rocks down a chute into a pickup truck right outside our window! Charming it wasn't!
