I am a fussy hotel guest. My family knows the routine when we arrive at a hotel for check-in . . . they wait in the car while I get the room key, then I go check out the room. They don't start unloading until I give it the "thumbs-up". I'm not in any way wealthy, but you shouldn't have to be to get a CLEAN room, lovely accommodations, and attentive staff. For our trip (my senior citizen parents, my husband and I, and our 8 year old twins) to Orlando I chose Ginn based on their website, my phone conversations with their staff, and the guests reviews on travel sites. I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the hype. IT DID. The pictures on their website, as dreamy as they are, don't do it justice. The grounds -- beautifully landscaped and manicured. The staff -- from the person at the entrance gate to the maintenance men, to the cleaning staff, to the door people, to the concierges, to the wait staff, to the pool attendants, EVERYBODY IS SO DANG FRIENDLY! Smiling, and welcoming, and helpful, johnny-on-the-spot with "Can I help you? Do you need anything?" I know what you are thinking right now, you are thinking "Well, yeah, they're friendly, because they are hoping for a big tip!", but here's the thing: you can't tip ANYBODY at Ginn, it's against their rules! On the first night I plugged in a night-light from home in my boys' room and I blew the fuse in their room . . . we called maintenance and 5-10 minutes later he was there to flip the switch (hiding behind a picture). We ran out of dishwasher detergent, called them, 10 minutes later someone is there with more detergent, PLUS more towels, and "Is there anything else we can do for you?". One night one of the toilets was backed up. My husband called maintenance, they sent someone over within 15 minutes. Here's how service-oriented they are: instead of just telling my husband that the toilet plunger was in one of the closets (we found it later), the guy came up and did it himself. The room: we stayed in a 3 BR villa (in "Center Court Ridge", villa 401 in building "E"). Exceeded expectations! Beautifully and stylishly decorated, handsome furnishings, high-tech appliances. Super comfortable beds, great layout, washer and dryer, 3 full bathrooms. Deck overlooking the golf course with small dining table and chairs. Amenities: the waterpark . . . WOW. This was one of the reasons I chose Ginn. The Waterpark has one of those climbing, spraying, "castle" contraption in it's own zero-depth entry pool. Then the large pool has a lazy-river, zero-depth entry on one side of the pool, a slide "carved" into the "rock". Reclining pool chairs everywhere, umbrellas, a grassy area to play badminton, bar and restaurant service. The landscaping was so beautiful in this area I spent the first 30 minutes walking around and taking pictures! (Northerners appreciate all the tropical greenery and flowers!) Then there is ANOTHER pool at a nearby pavillion -- just a regular pool, but perfect for us one day when we just wanted a simple pool in a lovely setting, and lunch brought to us while we sat in our lawn chairs! Then there is ANOTHER pool on the 11th floor (penthouse level) of the Grande building, very Hollywood-ish looking, with stylish "beds" around the pool, and big glass doors and curtains that lead to a restaurant. My husband and I stretched out on a bed for two people on a sunny, breezy day and we were in heaven. Other good things about Ginn -- on average it took us 10-15 minutes to drive to Disney World, and it's all highway and not backed up. No driving bumper-to-bumper on International Drive or any of the other backed-up routes to Disney. Just down the street, literally a mile or two away, was a Publix grocery store that was well-stocked and reasonably priced. Also a Walgreens drug store and gas station (plus Subway, McDonalds, Chinese restaurant). Ginn is about 20-30 minutes from Orlando airport. Not only would I DEFINITELY go back to Ginn on our next trip to Orlando, but I would not hesitate to try one of their other hotels (at other locations in the US).
