Located in the center of Manhattan in the area known as Gramercy. The rooms are equipped with the essentials and are similar to a New York apartment, including bay windows, bare brick walls, art deco radiators and colourful prints, and the restof the hotel continues in this designer theme. There are some great photographs and original works of popular art on each floor, which are worth taking a look at. Although it can be more like a museum than a hotel, it is one of the places to stay for up and coming artists, writers and actors.

Horrible
pros: great location, very funky looking, interesting historyMy husband and I stayed for 4 nights. We where originally given a room at the front of the hotel and for the first 2 nights put up with very loud nightclub across the road and even louder...
32 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for business
I stayed here two midweek nights in early November, and can't say that it was the best experience.
Upon check in, I had problems with my credit card, and when I asked if I could use the concierge phone to call out as my cell phone had poor reception in the lobby, I was snapped at by the front desk clerk who told me they don't have a public phone. Not a good first welcome for someone who was about ready to drop $700+ for a two night's stay.
The bed was OK, but definitely old. The window was wide open in the bathroom, and I had to stand on the top of the shower stall to close it. The water temperature in the shower could not be regulated, I easily spent 15 minutes in the shower trying to either not scald or freeze myself. The internet access was not available as promised.
i loved it, it was amazing all i could of wished for and more. all of the last reviews are rubbish dont listen to them. i think the hotel must of been done up or something since then because it was really really good when i went.

Style, cool, interesting guests, unusual, art work. One elevator, parking far from hotel.“This is a cool, funky place with a rich history, interesting guests, and original atmosphere. It is more for the tourist than the business traveler and would...
Some of the art and the sex museum next door will probably put off your typical puritan American - but so much the better in my book. We stayed in the dorm rooms which were fine for the price, everything worked to a reasonable degree. The hotel has...
If you can get beyond the wait times for the elevators, or that neither cell phone, nor blackberry signals got through. Even if you can get beyond the tiny bathrooms with the shower that drips all night, and the lousy mattresses, it is inexcusable...
cheap and clean, but frill-free

Okay
This hotel was cheap and clean, but it was very odd. If you like the type of modern art that you look at and go "hmmmm" and are still trying to understand when you return home, this is the place for you. The furniture and bedding were old, ...

Mediocre
The Gershwin Hotel would have to be considered on the higher-end of the 'budget accommodation' scale for New York. There are cheaper hostels around, but they don't look as pretty. The facade of the building is stunning with the property's art...
Very strange place, but not bad, just strange. The room i stayed in was very basic, four single beds, an en suite and TV. Service was adequate, but positioning, not so, every morning we had to walk several blocks, sometimes upto 9 or 10, or more to...
In a word? SHABBY - not chic ! Between the heat in the room (steam heat) that you can't control, puny water in the shower and a room that looks like it was last painted in 1960, I was apalled. The hardwood floors were waterstained and should have...
